Years ago one of the Yankee guys told me their ball turret was used for the closeups in the 1990 movie "Memphis Belle."

Is there an update on the rumor that Memphis Belle will be run up again once the restoration is finished?

My guide said that they wouldn't start it up due to the chance of fire, but then he followed it up by, "well ya never know". I don't know if this really answers the question but thats what we were told.

That is an ongoing debate. I have mixed feelings on it. I would say that it is not going to happen.

I am not sure of the top turret, but I know that the ball turret is real and complete. I think it works.

Mustang is correct...the ball turret works both manually and electrically.

That is the one that the guy donated to us when we were rebuilding 909 in Beaver. He said that his wife wanted him to get it out from between the washer and dryer!

Kind of sounds like how the EAA Museum in Oshkosh acquired their ball turret which is on static display. According to one of the curators some little old lady asked the museum if they wanted the ball turret that her late husband had restored and was now just sitting in her garage. Of course I'm sure it didn't take the EAA folks much convincing to accept such a generous offer.
