Great job Mudge!

It performs better without the extra weight of the instructor doesn't it?
Keep up the good work, and I'll have a personal landing story later.

I remember my first solo in Santa Barbara CA many years ago, my instructor told me I was ready to go. We had just completed 3 or 4 T&G's, I remember as if it were yesterday, I said ... "can we please go around one more time together"? He said, "nope, you're ready, you've been ready" and he smiled at me, shook my hand and gave me a "thumbs up" and shut the door for me,

I remember the door shutting and me sitting there with a "hot airplane". I remember scanning the instruments, all seemed in order, I HOPE! .. OK give some power and line up on 15 left. ... My instructor always told me to inform SB ground and SB tower that I was a student pilot ...

... "SB tower, Cessna 5353 Hotel, with alpha .... "STUDENT PILOT" ... taxi for takeoff.

... I got back ... "Cessna 5353 Hotel, taaaaaaxxxxxxiiiiiii toooooooo 15 leeeeefffftttt, annnddddd hoooooooold. ... lolol

... I replied, ... "please repeat? .... I didn't get that ... did I say "STUDENT PILOT"? .... "why are you talking so slow"?

.... I got back .... "YES KID .... we know who you are ... we've been listening and watching you all morning. Relax, we'll help you" ... but you better raise your flaps all the way up" .... lolol

Well, needless to say, I did it, I solo'd, ... I got that airplane up and off the ground and around and set up for final and greased it right in, taxied back to my instructor and he had a look of a very proud father. I went from .. "please, not yet" ... to ... "OK, you can go home now, I'll take it from here" ... lolol

... like I said, seems like it was yesterday ...

... A MAN, AN AIRPLANE, BLUE SKY ABOVE, BLUE SEA AND GREEN PASTURES BELOW AND A CLEAR VIEW IN ALL DIRECTIONS. You sit, you scan your instruments, you scan your horizon, you have not a worry in the world, you have no bills, no personal problems, no marriage problems, no family problems, no schedules, no work commitments, ... you only have a clear mind, a free spirit, a peace in your soul, you have wings ... you have only the feelings that a solo pilot could ever know ... your an AVIATOR .... for the rest of your life.

Congrats!
