This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Yellow 10 is (in my opinion) the "nec plus ultra" in warbird history. It was the personal aircraft of Major Franz Götz, Geschwader Kommodore of JG 26 during the last days of the war. It deserves to be in a perfect state, at one time during the 60's, it was little more than a hulk, lying in the suburbs of Atlanta. Then, Doug Champlin came along and had it rebuild to its present glory.
I doubt if it can be flown in the near future. I believe there's a problem with the engine control box (it's a kind of computer avant la lettre) and, of course, parts are impossible to find.
She's too valuable to fly. It would be wiser to wait for the Flugwerk kits to see one flying. Currently Eric Vormezeele is building one using parts (and an engine) from a Dora 9 (White 3 of 9. JG54, Wn 210102) flown by Paul Drutschmann, and shot down north of Brussels, during Operation Bodenplatte.
So, maybe one day, we may hear the bark of the mighty Jumo engine once again. :D

I agree, MOF is an amazing place, and it would be great for her to stay. However, I believe that she was only on loan to MOF, and was still owned by Doug Champlin prior to the recent sale. Considering her rarity, provenance and popularity, I imagine that her selling price was steep... probably approaching 8 figures.

Cheers,
