Eric, great stuff as always. Was a good day and I enjoy seeing some familiar faces ( Steve T, Parr Y ) Looks like in the near future we will see a all Ontario warbird show some were down the road with VWoC, Russell, CWH etc.

Here is a link to some of my images http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b165/ ... st%202007/

The wifw grabed up some good video and will get to it when time permits for the WIXers that could not be their.

Cheers Dave C

Hey Dave VWoC is in Quebec not Ontario! So we would have to make it an all Ontario/Quebec warbird show.
Steve M

VWoC is in Quebec but if a large scale warbird show was to happen I’m sure the chances are it would happen in Ontario. Only the future knows.

Nice work Steve N. They did really good for the set up at the museum.

Hey Steve N--

Your closeup of CWH's Beech...I think that's my hat in the front port window...that's certainly the seat I was in. Cool!

The T-28 was CWH member Bruce MacRitchie's from Welland; the group down there have restored several Cornells including the two now based at CWH. Bruce took off but returned immediately when a sensor indicated an engine problem; the 727 did a rather dramatic abort. We were taxiing in in the Beech when that happened. What showmanship, eh, however unintentional! (Reminds me of the All Canada Express 727 beating-up the Hope early on the morning of one of the last airshows there)...

I like that high angle from the upstairs patio, showing the Spit, Moth and Beech. Looks almost like a model shelf...but those are some really quality builds, eh... That shot neatly summarizes the new order at CWH, in a way: the Spit, guesting in from another collection; the Beech, a stalwart in the member flights program all along; and the Tiger Moth, unflown, apparently, for five years, until being prepped for this event...and flying rides all day long. Bet she's glad to be back too!

Cheers

S.

I agree Eric but don't rule Quebec out yet, check out http://www.spectacleaerien.qc.ca/index. ... il&lang=EN
There is a lot of interesting flying particularly aerobatics going on there. The english language aviation press tends to overlook it.
Seen some interesting stuff show up at the VWoC open house. Also those Pitts keep entertaining us before the crowds get there with some awesome flying.

I'll say! I've never seen a 727 do a carrier "wave off" before..pretty spectacular. Thanks for the info.

Here's a pic you might like then..unfortunately it's a bit blurry. This was the Beech breaking for landing (before I shot the closeup on the ramp..so that mean's you're on board.) I got a chuckle when the pilot dropped the gear druing the break.

Cheers!

Just found this post, thought I'd join in on this discussion too! I think this event is a sign of change at the museum, seems that everyone there was in high spirits and good moods (at least when I was there on Saturday, luckily I was sick when everything had to be put away and cleaned up!) There have been many changes, the new CEO has recently also taken on the role of Chief Pilot. To make a long story short, this means that things could get interesting. All of the pilots there were really flying these planes, especially on the arrivals, this alone brought about a lot of enthusiasm among pilots, groundcrew, tour guides, everyone! Also pilots are being given opportunities to fly different aircraft, and last year we saw the DC-3 take to the air after quite a long hiatus. I only wish I knew what was going on behind closed doors, unfortunately though I am friends with the people behind the doors, I'm still caught on the wrong side. All I know is that the museum is in capable hands with the CEO, and as far as I can tell he is on friendly terms with Vintage Wings, Russell Group, Fighter Factory and many others.

The Avro Anson has been brought in and out of Maintainance repeatedly over the last few years. I routinely ask about this, but never get a very definitive answer. Over the Flyfest weekend I asked the Chief Engineer about it, he said they keep discussing it. There is the common issue of money, time, money, resources, money, other commitments, and money. He has a lot to look after, dealing with uncommon aircraft such as the Lanc and Firefly, fairly unique restorations to flying status - The Lysander and the Boly, nagging volunteers such as me! Also he is stretched very thin in staff and resources, yet he manages to pull through and keep 'em flying.

I'll pass your comments on to the folks upstairs at CWH, I'm sure they'll be happy to hear it.

By the way, sorry for writing a novel, I'll try and keep future posts shorter, I'm just excited about the future prospects of the museum, if this year's Flyfest is any indication, things are looking better than they have since I started in 1998.

No need to apologise, many thanks to you and the others who've troubled to share what's clearly been a fun, fascinating and optimistic weekend. Let's hope it continues to improve.

As for the Anson, a wooden wing and a steel tube fuselage are two unfunny items for a aircraft that's not been flown for a long time. NDT testing on either is difficult, I understand, to the degree one would want today. Cash, time and a total stripdown would seem likely, but that's just speculating from the other side of the globe. ;)

Cheers

Thanks for the info, Greg. I was wondering about the Anson..she looked like she might be getting a bit of attention. You're right about the CWH having some really unique aircraft. It's a five-hour drive for me from Michigan, but well worth it to see a Lanc gracing the skies!

Too bad the Russell Hurricane and Bf-109 didn't make it. I heard they didn't have a pilot for the 109, and the Hurri turned back en route due to a hydraulic issue. I was a little disappointed, but I'd rather see the planes kept safely on the ground rather than flown by unqualified pilots or in questionable condition.

Hey Greg, the more information the better.
