Indeed it's a sad Day! He was a great American Hero! I arrainged to get him to come to the Pratt & Whitney Airshow. The more beer I brought the more stories he told.. The mig flew by and he said Pull. Ha Ha
Great Guy. I hoped to see him at Oshkosh :( Life seems a little less colorfull today.

Blue Skys as you go into the west General

I've had the pleasure of drinking and singing fighter pilot songs with the General on several occasions. Each time, you could see him become a 25-year old fighter jock again.

His stories and his strength of character always inspired me and everyone who ever met him. I'm happy to have shared some time on earth with him.

Oh man.. that's sad.

Very sorry to hear this news.

What's that expression one of the WIXers has as a signature? Something like, "it is well to be sad that they are gone, but it is better to be thankful that such men lived"...or words to that effect. That rings true now.

I may be seeing a P-51 tomorrow at CWH...if the Mustang's there I'll be thinking of General Olds as I'm photographing it...

Godspeed "Scat Man", and thank you, sir.

Very sad. He would come down to the NMUSAF once in a while. When he did, we would put the ladders up to his F-4, and let him in it. We have some cool pics of him in the aircraft through out the museum.

Sad news, but he certainly lived a fuller life than most of us, and went peacefully.

Happy Landings!

Now if their was ever a Guy that a Movie would be deserving of Gen Olds would be and should be !

God Speed ! Well see you on the Flight line on the other side !

yes maybe someone or maybe WIX could start a beeline and promote someone to make a decent movie about Olds life...

Theres mustangs, p-38s and F-4D least flying, so a start could be worked around these warbirds and built into a good biopic surely

Title could be

Mudge the tearful and not ashamed of it.

Very sad day. Feel like I lost a dear friend. I remember talking to Robin the last time when he came over to the museum to see his F-4C named "Scat XXVII" just this past year. He had so many facinating stories to share with us museum volunteers. He will certainly be missed by many, but not forgotten. Rest in peace my friend. You have moved on to a higher plane.

What a Great man indeed. I had the priviledge of sharing some emails with him in which he always seemed so willing to explain to me his love of flying anything. It hit him pretty hard when Jim Shuttleworth was lost in Scat VI. "Scat" was a reference to his roomate during flight training who washed out. He promised him to name all of his planes after him...and he did. Loved the fact that he liked the flying characteristics of the Spitfire better than any plane he got to fly in Europe :) I will forever cherish the 8x10 he sent me for my birthday a couple of years ago. As so many here have said, he probably would not want us to sit around moping and crying in our beer..."what a waste of good beer"! Godspeed General.

I too had the pleasure of spending several hours with Robin at dinner one night about seven or eight years ago. I could have talked to him for much longer. At the time we talked about the fact that he had not written a book about his life and he mentioned that he was working on one. I don't believe he ever finished. I saw him on a number of occassions after that event, at Jim Shuttleworth's funeral at OSH and MAF and a few scattered other events.

Ironically, the 'rebuilt' Scat VII is about to fly out at John Lane's place once again. Too bad Robin won't be around to see it.
