come on guys, the most mind-blowing option would be:

"5 GRAND"

Sure would take a while....

Also, Coastal Command would be a refreshing change. As a matter of fact, that would look great on a B-24 as well, complete with the stub wings and a load of rockets, maybe a Leigh light, some antennae...you get the drift. Other than that I'd have to say that a really well done and authentically weathered "Bit O Lace" would be mind blowing as well.

cheers

Glen wrote:(The Out House Mouse) would be a nice one Or ( Will it Run ) of the Mighty Eight Airforce !

Here's a question: I've seen several different types using the nose art "Willit Run." 51's and '17's included. What is the source for this slang term? I know it was frequently used to describe the B-24 plant at Willow Run while it was under construction.

So which one's the chicken and which one's the egg? Was the Willow Run bomber plant the genesis for the term? or does it pre-date the bomber plant?

As for my B-17...gotta go with an OD Green E model. I've always been a fan of the "Miss" names. Miss Carriage, Miss Behavin', something along those lines.

I was told by a Pilot when He and his Crew got their plane asigned to them A very nervous Tail gunner ask Will it run ? thus the name stuck on their Bird By the way that plane and crew did make it through their tour of Combat. Can not remember what group only that it was in the Eight Airforce and the name of another Sqd Bomber that the pilot mention was The Ratt Bastard ! dose this plane ring a bell with anybody else ? it was over 25 years ago when I was told this. slept a few times since then.

How about one of the heavy escort B-17Fs with the dual 50's in the waist, a G style chin gun, and an extra turret for the radio operator. No really practical but had to be really intimidating to loo at!

That would be somthing different on the circut.

The R.A.F. Coastal Command is another awsome idea.

Sally B's future? :)

No chance..........

It would be nice to see Sally B rotate authentic scheme's like the BBMF do with the Lanc......but with such limited funds that's not gonna happen either.

Bit o Lace would nice I must admit.....as one who remembers the old Airfix kit of her as a child.

Love to see a RAF Coastal Command one though but even better would be one of the RAF 214 Sqn ECM aircraft in the standard night bomber green/brown with black undersides...... 8)

Chow Hound...
It makes a nice PC T-shirt = $$
Selling the 1/48 Monogram/Revell Kit still sporting the Chow Hound markings = $$
$$ = 100LL in the tanks to get to the next stop...

Thats 1/144th scale! Whoo Hoo!

I wish i could find the Sentimental Journey one in 1/144th scale by Corgi, but there few and far in between. As well as expensive when you do find one.

B-17 paint job

Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:33 pm

I am building from the bombay bulkhead forward including the nose.Robert Rosenthals, Rosies Riveters. Oh yes, I mean one to one scale. Sickness is alive in Atlanta.

Then you can make another one, and name it Hang the Expense. If I recall, that plane was part of the 100th BG just like Rosie was.

B-17F Jenny Lou

Fri Jun 08, 2007 11:43 am

My Douglas built B-17F, 42-3077, would be in the color's of my Dad's 15th AF, 301st BG, 419th BS Fortress "Jenny Lou." Jenny also served with the 97th BG. The beautifully painted portrait of Jenny Lou Carson, an upcoming country western singer of that day, was on the left nose.

Square-Y, circle-4 markings on the tail.

Just not enough 15th AF paint schemes out there among existant heavy bombers!

It would have to be a late model F with the bulged cheek guns, painted OD of course, that was faded to "poop" brown. As far as a name....????? Too many to select from.

How would you paint your B-17?

Sun Jun 17, 2007 9:57 pm

Concerning gregv's suggestion of "5 Grand".Gene Akers, who flew B-17 airtankers for Globe at one time, told me that he flew "5 Grand" with the distinctive, literally signature paint job.He said that the airplane was pretty much of a dog in that configuration because of the drag from all of the names that were painted everywhere.Apparently, most of the paint was thicker and considerably rougher than a standard paint job,and certainly eroded performance compared to a late production natural finish. That said,it would draw a crowd at an air show. Then again, what B-17 wouldn't?

I would love to see Chow hound or 5 grand. here is an idea for recreating it's paint scheme. Reproduce the originals that you can identify. If the worker is still around, let them repaint their name on it. As for the rest, let people who donate, or veterans sign it. Names on a plane bothered me, until Rick H showed me that the names on the outside of the Collings birds are veterans. That changed my view of it. Also the milestone planes are cool.

I was reading an article and came across a unique one, why not "Wulf Hound" deced out in KG 200 colors, that would be sure to draw a lot of strange looks!!!
