Steve, you'll be glad to know there is a good-sized picture of "Quitchurbitchin" on pgs 30-31 of " The Ragged Irregulars of Bassingbourn" soon to be residing in your library. I don't have "Plane Names and Fancy Noses" yet, so I don't know what's in there. Nose art was by the most excellent Tony Starcer, looks like a Varga girl or one of those other artists. I'm fortunate to have in my vast library "B-17 in Action" by Steve Birdsall, which is signed by Tony Starcer and quite a few other 91st BG personnel. 8)

So, if I may be so nosy, what's your interest in this particular aircraft?

Dave, a while back me and a co-worker were going @ it and he says "quit your bitchin", so I said "hey I think there was a B-17 with that name but all in one word". So I posted on the site asking about it and possibly any photos. The books should becoming some time this week?

It's funny how something silly can pique your interest. Let me know if there's any pics of Quitchurbitchin in "Plane Names and Fancy Noses".

The Pilot was a mighty warrior by the name of Charles Cliburn. They set many records they were not recognized for because of the racy name of the plane.
I had the honor of growing up around Col Cliburn and serving as a pall bearer at his passing. He was a great man and a great husband and father.
His son is Jeff Cliburn and living in Norman Oklahoma. The family has extensive pictures of this aircraft and I believe the crew also. He can be reached by email tuneboy2000@yahoo.com

What a great post to a thread I have a lot of interest in. I actually named my sailboat Quitcherbitchen because of this plane. I was reading the Mighty Eight about twenty years ago when I came across the name and it piqued my interest. I have since made a R/C B-17 with a 76" wingspan and named it Quitcherbitchen. I fly it regularly in scale RC fly-ins. There are so few photographs of any of the B-17s named this as well as only two of Col. Cliburn's. Only one of which shows the name. Do you think you could dig up some other photos for us fans?

What a great honor it must have been to have known Col Cliburn.
