This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Steve be nice. Your condescending remarks about Tom Cruise are not warranted or desired on this or any other public forum.
John...Don't know whether that was sarcasm or not. If it was, please let me know before I respond with something harsh.

No sarcasm Mudge, I was quite serious. No high horse but in my book personal attacks are not warranted, desired, wanted or tolerated. Cruise is has offered to do something good for the CAF and that should not go unnoticed. Remarks like those offered above often end up being deal spoilers. If somebody holds ill-will towards another individual for any reason, it should be kept private.

Hey Shay,
What I meant bud is that if it is still in the USAFM coollection it will not fly again. I did not mean the ones that have been traded. The T-6 is no longer on the ramp, at least I never saw it.

John...I think I liked it better when I thought it might be sarcasm. There are quite a few posts on here that could be considered "personal" criticism.
If you're going to set yourself up as official "arbiter" of such posts, you're going to have a lot of reading and decision making to do.
I think we all have a pretty good idea of what is and is not acceptable here and I think we all look to the moderators to enlighten us when we go astray.

ps...I warned you it might be harsh.

What Mr. Cruise said about Ms. Shields was wrong. Ms. Sheilds was trying to raise awareness of a known medical problem. She put others before herself, and let some skeletons out of her closet in an attempt to help others and let others know they are not alone. Mr. Cruise's comments wereabusive, and belittleing in addition to being wrong. Also, his admonition toward cannabolism does not sit right with me either.
Yes he is a warbird owner, and has $$$$$ to spend helping the effort to "keep 'em flyin'". We need high profile rich folks, but FOrd or Travolta seem less controversial.

Brook Shields? I must be out of the loop. WHat did he say about her?

Aren't there other forums where we can share our vast knowledge and penetrating insights on the personal affairs of celebrities and where we will not be putting the future of our favorite airplanes at risk by so doing?

P.S. That was sarcasm.

Mudge,
I respect your point of view and you did not ruffle my feathers in the least.
I am not setting my self up to arbiter on this board or anywhere else for that matter. It’s a simple matter of right or wrong, acceptable verses unacceptable behavior. Either the moderators of the site never saw remark in question, or worse, saw it and thought it was acceptable. I tend to believe it’s the latter since the remark is still there and they have had plenty of time to read it.
If a person was at a party and one of the guests began berating and verbally accosting somebody else, should he, A) pretend he is not witnessing anything, B) think to himself “ignore it, somebody else will take care of the situation” or, C) do his best to defuse the situation? Regrettably the world around us is filled with “thinkers” and too few willing to action when they see an obvious wrong being committed.
Admittedly it’s a long shot but for all we know Tom Cruise, or somebody he knows looks at this board from time to time. Imagine him seeing that post and thinking, “With a prevailing attitude like that, I’m not spending my money on an airplane I will never own just to get it back in the air for people like that to enjoy”. Poof…deal gone south.
What’s the old saying, “If ya have nothing good to say about somebody, then say nothing at all about them.”

Ms. Shields came out on TV about her post partum depression. She was near suicide,a nd took medication and therapy to get better. Mr. Cruise came out on TV and blasted her for taking medications and basically saying post partum depression does not exist.
I thank Mr. Cruise for his endevours into aviation and his support of warbirds in particular;however, to act without consequence is also wrong. Be he a celeb or average Joe. I'm not asking Mr. Cruise to do anything I would not do. I'm not saying he is "nuts" or "goofy" or a "religious zealot". I am saying he is wrong for blasting someone who was trying to help others.

I did not know that. Very interesting. K5083, why is it wrong to discuss this here. We are talking about a man that could end up restoring a P-82 to fly.
Thu Feb 22, 2007 4:57 pm
Hey, I am not in the business of declaring things right or wrong, I'm just suggesting that it is in our interest to welcome new, high profile potentially influential members into the warbird community without discussing matters that we, I think, would not care to have discussed about ourselves, and by so doing show that our interest is in the man and his apparently shared passion for warbirds as opposed to what the general public is interested in. (Did you see his interview on "Inside the Actor's Studio" when he told James Lipton he owns a P-51? That guy clearly loves his airplane.) Besides, if you had googled Tom's and Brooke's names, you could have gotten the answer to your question faster than you got it here and in more detail than any rational person would want to know. So why raise it here, is my question. I know you are a fan of Tom's and didn't mean any harm, but there's no need to come here for celebrity gossip.
I think I'm really just saying what John Beyl said.

I knew what you mean't. I was just pointing out that an aircraft in the NMUSAF's collection is not considered to be permenant especially if the right deal comes along.
Regarding the T-6. I always saw it staged on the ramps at Patterson Field (the active airfield). Never saw it fly though. Of course this was back when Wright-Patt had F-16s stationed there and Springfield was flying A-7s.

Not quite flying yet, but not far now.

K5083 and Shay, I think we are all on the same page. I didn't meant to pry about his personal life, I had no idea what that was about. I should have guessed it was not airplane related. Like I said, I met him once, and he was very awsome to me. And loves to talk about the P-51.

Sorry...must...nitpick!
The Spit that left the USAFM collection and is soon to fly again in NZ, TE330, is a XVI, not a XIV...the XVI is (more or less) a IX with a Packard-built Merlin, while the XIV, despite its lower mark number, is a Griffon-powered variant of slightly newer origin. (Those Roman numerals are a pain in the neck...)

No problem........... my faded memory. Feel free to throw the Bullshi
t flag on anything I say. I was surprised to find out it left the museum when I came back to Dayton.
Wasn't it a gift from the RAF or something like that?
Everything has it's price I guess. I wonder how much for "Bockscar"??
