I've also heard from a reliable source that attack helicopters are being considered for the escort duties Mike already mentioned.

No detail in terms of what type, but it was made clear that strategic planning from the AF side includes them. Can't speak for what the gov't thinks of the idea though.

I'm so glad that the CF is considering Attack helicopters. They will help our young men and women overseas, a lot.

And thank goodness the CF is getting Chinooks too. It was a mistake to sell them in the first place.

About flying escort, that just doesn't sound right for an attack helicopter to do, but I don't know. I'm a fixed wing guy with little knowledge of military helicopter operations.
