That's just an access panel. There were no P-47 recon models. It's not war weay just rode hard! OD and NMF a/c flew side by side. Many 9th AF fighter groups were still operating razorbacks on VE-Day.

I ran across some information that said that because the "Malcom Hood" canopy was in such short supply, they started taking side windows from B-24's and attaching them to the P-47's. That's where the bubble window came from.
