That isn't a national museum, the building was a general aviation building, and the P-39 suffered damage, not destroyed. The damage it suffered was no where near that it would have recieved in a crash.

I worry more of a storm destroying a hanger and falling on the aircraft then a plane crashing. Florida I think is a big risk for owning a warbird. The Naval museum.... wow if that got hit an destoryed by a storm look at all the sole example aircraft that would be destroyed!.

Perhaps we could disuss the "last" of a certain type. How do you square the fact that the Air Force Museum either bought or took as donations, all of the parts for three remaining AT-9 "Jeep" aircraft, made one static example, and then scrapped all of the remaining parts. The policy for years has been not to release any parts to the public because of liability concerns. But, of course, the AT-9 shouldn't be flown because it's the last example...the Air Force Museum made sure of that on both counts.

If you could read, you and Mustangdriver both, would have noticed that I didn't attribute that quote to anyone in particular, including the person who made it, becuase I was including myself in there as well. Clearly more opinions than expertise here, myself included.

I think the MATURE thing would be for posters to this thread to cease, before it degrades any further and has to be locked by the Mods.

It is well off topic, as it appears to have moved well past the issue of the A-25 in the title of the thread into meaningless personal swipes.

Ideally, we should be trying to retain at least one example (and ideally at least two) of each of these aircraft to be preserved for posterity, that cannot easily be achieved via a sole flying example, as there is the constant risk of damage:

Ground engine fire - B-29 "Kee Bird"
Air to Air Collision - Meteor/Vampire "Vintage Pair"
mid air breakup - Jet Provost (Australia)
ground impact- Bulldog & numerous others.
Fatigue / wear and tear - replacement/substitution of original parts.

More historic aircraft have been destroyed in hanger fires then destroyed by crashing them - can you say Paris Air Museum, Can you say Canadian Hanger fire - how about Yanks Air Museum, Conetticut Air Museum (1979 Tornado)
