"Anyone else notice that in the pictures of "Impatient Virgin" that it is fitted with the fin fillet? That's not accurate for a B/C Mustang, is it? Were some of them retrofitted? I'm not dissing the airplane or anything...just curious."

Note that E9*R "Impatient Virgin" (low canopy & no fillet) and E9*B "Eva!" (malcolm hood & fillet) are one and the same aircraft.

The rebuilt "Impatient Virgin" is actually a tribute to the pilots of "both"aircraft (did that make sense). In fact, she carries the "Eva!" noseart on the starboard side. Perhaps we should all be referring to her as "Impatient Eva!"

Not a crappy picture at all.... it would be great if you had more... I'd love to see them. Was Koskela the video guy that wouldn't get out of the way? I talked to that fellow after and told him he should work on fine tuning his sense of self preservation...

The funny part is that Paul and I (and maybe Dennis Bergstrom?) were taking pics from exactly the same spot in '07 when Ruff Stuff first taxiied in. Tuesday AM felt like what Yogi Berra used to call "deja vu all over again".

The pic I took was the last one I got as I figured the turn around was gonna' be close, but once Paul gets his eye in the view finder he loses all sense of reality around him! He told me it didn't really click until his sixth sense felt the port wing overhead. "But I was on the pavement!" has become the humorous paradigm for OSH '08. I'm just glad we can all chuckle over it. :wink:

I too am very glad we can laugh about it... and a little good ribbing is a very good thing. That whole taxi in and out the line of Mustangs was hard work... there wasn't much clearance between nose/prop on one side and tails on the other... don't forget you taxi that thing with differential brakes and power... no nose gear steering.... you've got to plan ahead and keep your momentum up.

I'd love to see more of your shots and the video as well... I'm back home in Fort Worth as I write this... others will fly the airplane this weekend.

Good to see a fillet on a razorback, high-back, hump-back, B-model, or whatever we decided to call them ... as Jim and others know, yep, it was "accurate". Jack's got some great shots of Beerbower's (354th FG ace) kite with the fillet ...

Speaking of accuracy, as somebody who spends his days "noticing the little details" and translating them into pigment on canvas, I gotta give a shout out to Mike V. for his usual superb attention to detail with the paint job as well as the obvious mechanical/restoration wizardry. On that note ... referring to Dan K's photos below, posted earlier in this thread, what little "accurate detail" is included on HJGB that so far I haven't seen on any of the other new Mustangs?

I myself have been "called" on this little detail in my paintings, but so far nobody has taken me up on my offer of $1 for every WWII photo I can come up with showing the detail in question ...

Hint - it's visible in all three shots below (no, I know what you're thinking ... it's not the tail-warning radar). :wink:

On the ".....Go Buggy" (and all the D models I see):

what is the purpose of the curved structural member with the lightening holes, behind the armor plate? Is it a roll bar?

The yellow paint on the back side of the prop tips?

The tech orders actually require the fin fillet on the B/C. I had a big argument with Rich about that .... I won. Finally. And it wasn't grounded either

I am not sure if it is the detail you are talking about Wade, but I noticed right away that the tips on the reverse side of the propellers are painted yellow. The majority of the time I have noticed that other Mustang restorations sporting the same prop do not have yellow tips on the reverse side.

The clear antenna lead-in in the canopy, without the antenna wire itself because it was not fitted to 8th AF birds?
