That was the automatic servo actuated beer dispenser that dropped a cold beer in the crews hands after engine shut down. No, wait-that mod was deleted by the AF along with nose wheel steering. Darn, thought I had it!!

Randy, that is a heck of an idea. I will bring it up to JR!! Thanks for the suggestion. See you soon! Be sure to let me know when you hit town. I will probably be around the hangar helping with the high altitude trainer that the local FAAST team is getting OK City to bring down for 4 days of training local pilots. Heck, it might even be a cheaper buzz than beer!! Can find out what your symptoms or lack thereof of hypoxia might feel like. It runs from Thurs... set up day... thru Sunday. Classes start on Friday. Take care and have a safe trip. The other JR

I think we have to give it to the B29flteng on his call about it being for the oil cooler door. This actuator opens and closes the door above JR's head to let more or less cooling air go thru the oil radiator. It is supposed to work automatically, but we have not gotten far enough into it to make it behave yet. It works in manual, but auto seems to be a mystery. I know... we need a bigger hammer! :-) The other JR

Is this what they mean when we hear all that airport talk about "thru the fence"? Seems kinda silly to me that TSA should be all concerned about that. Some low lifes could easily cut thru the fence even if the gate was not there. It only takes two ladders even for old guys to get over the fence. I guess I just don't understand all of the in's and out's of "thru the fence" issues!! :-) JR

Tim is up on top of the wing wrestling with the oil cooler door actuator compartment trying to clean out 47 years of accumulated dried oil mist and crud. Funny how the house picks up a little dirt over the years when nobody is looking, isn't it? Well, it looks 100 per cent better now. JR is down below trying to figure out if we can save the actuator. It is binding a bit and so is the door itself. Bad combination. We have no doubts he will figure it out, but just in case, we have located some serviceable units, thankfully. Yall take care and come see us this weekend. There will be lots of activity here at Ft Worth Meacham airport on Saturday especially. The other JR

We disabled the automatic feature of the oil cooler door actuators on the B-29 in the event it fails in the closed position. All we have is manual operation.

Good point. We will have to find out what the failures modes are and if the door just stays where it is. We had a minor hiccup with that on one side during the ferry flight. Tribal knowledge did not get passed down how to manually operate it while holding the CB in. It didn't pop, but it didn't make good contact either unless pressed hard. The electrical genius's are working all of the CB's to see which one need to be replaced. I am favor of just doing all of them, but JR says we should do them as time and money permits. I have to agree because we need to get the airplane flying one of these days. Gee, I don't know what we will do when all we have to do it is fly it..... as if. :-) JR

Got good news from JR today. The brake housing and rotors are cleaned up and waiting on Magnaflux. The guys at Aviall's brake shop do nice work. Many thanks to those folks over there for helping us out with the overhaul. The Other JR

This is how the rotors looked today. Came out really nice considering how rusted everything looked inside the brake housing. TA DAH... JR

David Horn sent us this shot of his beautiful model of the K. He said he is going to put the same markings on it soon so that it will be the same as ours. As soon as WE have that figured out..... golly, that time is coming fast. Right now, I am not thinking there will be any nose art in the WWII traditional sense, but won't rule it out entirely until we all sit down and discuss it. The NKP birds had very few with nose art. Can't find any reference to the training bases at England and Hurlburt having any on their aircraft. I would like to have the insignia of the Air Commando Wing, Squadron and Special Ops Squadron on the side of the fuselage somewhere, but not necessarily nose art size. It would be to help tell the story of the Special Operations guys at NKP. Anyway, can't wait to see David's finished model. Thanks, David.... We appreciate the interest. JR
