This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Regarding the cost of being a CAF Colonel, if you throw in the approximate $50 for membership in a local Wing, that comes to $250 a year.
That has got to be one of the best bargains out there if you want to roll up your sleeves and get dirty around some great aircraft!
Saving up and paying for a ride or “flight experience” is fine, and we appreciate the business, but that in no way can compare to the camaraderie of being part of a crew going to an airshow and working the event. Invest a little sweat equity in the off season and join us – it’s a blast!
The only thing keeping me from doing that now is that my time and resources are being invested in some privately owned warbird restorations that I would like to get flying one of these decades. Grrrrr.

Not your aircraft, not your money!!!
Mark it and paint how they want.
The aircraft are preserved and flying.
It is a bit silly to be complaining about authentic paint.
At least these aircraft are still around to have paint.
If this is our biggest problem, I would say we are lucky.
It is a privilege just to be able to still have these aircraft around after 60 +years
I now have joined the rest of the club to make this the most debated topic in a while
PS If you don't like the logo photoshop it out with todays technology or don't take a picture of it.

Repeated at nearly every airshow/fly-in we took the B-25 to......
Local Yokel " "You guys are a long way from home!"
Jack "Sir?"
Local Yokel " Texas is a long way from here!"
Jack "We're from Salem"
Local Yokel "I thought the Confederate Air Force was in Texas?"
Jack "It is"
Local Yokel "But you said you're not from Texas!"
Jack "We're from Salem"
Local Yokel "But the Confederates run all these here old bombers!"
Jack "They have a lot but not all of them."
Local Yokel "But you're no Air Force!"
Jack "You gotta start somewhere"
Local "Is that legal?"
Jack "I suppose"
Local Yokel "Do those Confederate boys know about this?"
Jack "Well, I'm not sure"
Local Yokel walks away while glancing at bomber while scratching chin.
Jack climbs up on wing and hides

What part of Texas is Salem in anyway?
Wed Jul 30, 2008 8:15 pm
I'll get back to you on that.
IMHO the greater task isn't name recognition but correct name
recognition. Everybody knows who the Confederate Air Force is
but not one person I've met at a show has heard of the those Commerative guys.
Excuse me now I'm going for a ride on the Goodrich blimp

Hey guys remember Jack started it I didn't say a word. Well not this time anyway. I think I reconize the accent on that guy you were talking to at the airshow. He's from East Texas.................just the other side of Little Rock.

Huh, The angle of the dangle is equal to the mass of the ass and the heat of the meat provided the motions is constant?
Isn't this the formula for the Pizza rolls?
Sorry guys, this is getting too serious.
No, you forgot to divide by 6. Then it is the formula and the distribution factor.
Actually, the decal on the plane to me, is insignificant. Get it off the plane. I'd say, get all the financial sponsors you can, ala NASCAR, patch up the pilots, train them in the art of "sponsor speak" (the Home Depot, Valvoline, Shell PT-26) and make it policy to have every CAF bird have a display board with the pertinent info on it declaring it a CAF aircraft and thank the sponsors that keep it flying. Seems simple to me to meet in the middle and cover everyone.
but, what do I know...I'm just a Dork.

Jack, one of these days we must have a Texas WIXer reunion. And, since you are in Salem . . . . : ) you must come by and say hello! : )
Saludos,

Just wondering about a slightly different thing. In the old days the "col's" wore patches on their back with both confederate and Texas flags, as well as the "blood chit" regarding safe return to southern territory and mint julep. I guess any col found in such attire in these PC days will be blindfolded and placed infront of a firing squad?

You won't be shot for wearing your old CAF uniform. Just tell them you are one of the reenactors reenacting the 50 years of CAF before they screwed it up. Get the airplane and paint it red, white and blue being sure to get the right shade of everthing, count the rivets, match the serial numbers and your in business.

As no one has replied to this for a few days I'll call the poll over with a 77% choice for no. Won't mean anything to headquarters, but the will of the people has been heard. I think if it was a CAF member only Poll the results would have been much the same. What was the count of new members signed up at Oshkosh? I hope we got a herd.
