Hi all,
As some folks know, I'm in Ontario at the moment, and I've visited Trenton, CanAv and CWH Hamiltion (and aim to revist!)

Where else is worth a visit in your opinion?

Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Aren't there a few warbirds based at Oshawa? (Airic will be able to add more, I'm sure)

I think that the A-26 atop Mackie Trucking in Oshawa has gone now.

If you take the scenic route from Toronto to Ottawa, there's a nice Harvard on a stick in Smith Falls (IIRC)

And there used to be an excellent aviation bookshop near Totonto airport, whose name escapes me at the moment.

I'm having a great time here. Canada's a great place to be. (Something heavy) just rumbled overhead (eastern Toronto). Even the Cessnas have floats!

Smith Falls - Yup, Harvard is still there - we went past on our way up, but fdidn't stop as I thought we'd be coming back that way; as itwas we went the other route. Drat.

Canadian War Museum is on the list. Any other bets?

JDK, Have you been to the Toronto Aerospace Museum, which is located in Toronto at Downsview Airport. The manager is Paul Cabot, make yourself known to him, he is very enthusiastic. It is well worth the visit if you are around there. Of course you could go down to Welland near the Falls and see Ed Russell collection, even though it is not open to the public, if you ask nicely , they may let you in.
Aviation World , which is next to Pearson, is worth a look as well.
The Canadian War Museum is in the process of re-organization for the new building. I did see that the early Spitfire they have, has been moved out , probalbly to storage, as well their main storage facility Vimy House is also closed to the public at the moment, so I am unsure what is on actual display.
There is also a small collection of aircraft and artifacts at Carlingford, near Trenton. A bit off the beaten track, but an interesting little collection. Hope this helps,

Not aviation related, since there was no aviation then, put Old Fort Henry in Kingston is well worth a visit. They do a really good sunset ceremony during the summer. Military drill is second to none! Schedule is on their website: http://www.forthenry.com/home.htm

If you like things on floats, go north. I was in Parry Sound on Georgian Bay a couple of summer's ago. Beautiful area, not to far from Toronto, and lots of float planes around.

If you're back in the Ottawa area, I think the CAM actually has rides in a Beaver taking off from the Ottawa River. They used to, not sure if they still operate it or not. Their website will tell you.

I am glad you asked as I would have felt very stupid if I had not sent you this.

I had this already in Word, so it wasn't hard to post here. Pick the locations of interest and let us (WIX) know where you want to go. We can likely give very specific driving directions.

BTW... Much of this info is likely to be dated so always check museum websites for the most recent data.

Further Info: A Canadair built Lockheed Silver Star is located on the grounds of the RCAFA. Also keep going east on that same street to the east side of town and you will find another CT-133 pole mounted in front of the Nav Canada facility.

Adding to the above:

Fort Henry has some tracked vehicles on display, as well as (IIRC) an F-86 at least. The Kingston airport has a Harvard (iit was in bad shape when I saw it in 2001). Besides, the view and the grounds are something to really enjoy. And in Kingston, the girls, oh, man!!!!!!!! The Girls . . . .

If you care to travel North, Petawawa CFB has an excellent museum and used to have a Dakota out there.

North Bay has interesting aircraft to be seen, last time (July 2003) there was an E-3 AWACS there.

Wow Mike, that's quite the list!!

Note sure about the Sabre at Fort Henry though. Its mostly circa mid-19th century. Could be one somewhere else in Kingston though.

There is also a military communications museum in Kingston, just up the road from Old Fort Henry.

And for something completely different, I think there are also tours of parts of the Kingston Penitentiary, though I could have my facts mixed up on that one. In town there's also a marine museum. Something for everyone!

When you turn off #2 you can go left to Fort Henry, or vear right into the grounds of the Royal Military College. Enter RMC, find your way over the hill, and somewhere in amoungst the trees on the grounds you will find the F-86.

Go back to #2, but at the traffic light go straight and cross #2. Find your way around to the other side of the ice arena on the left and you will find a CF-100.

Go back to #2 and turn left (east) travel up the hill and past the next set of lights. And the second set of lights (I think) turn left into CFB Kingston. Drive around the grounds there and you will find an impressively mounted CF-5. Nearby you will also find a Kiowa as well. Twese two were not on the list.

Also mentioned on the list is the Harvard on the south west side of Kingston.

I didn't know you could drive around the grounds at RMC. I'll have to do that next time. That's probably also where the tracked vehicles are that Tulio was referring to. Not quite Old Fort Henry, but just down the hill.

Good point. I don't know what you can get to now. Most places have more security. I don't know if you can get on the grounds of RMC and CFB Kingston. You can likely still get to the CF-100.

Hi James

About the Constellation, last october it was on Derry road, at the north-west side of the airport. A fence is all around but you can see it closely. It was not possible to go inside last fall.

A nice attraction in Toronto, but not related with aviation, is the Ontario Sciences Center. It's a kind of museum were you can touch and manipulate a lots of things.

Hmmm. I need to point out here Tulio that my wife's sister works in Kingston. For me acting on your advice could get me into MULI-level trouble! I will pass on your praise though...

We've visited Kingston, and yes, walked around the RMC Base (fine, no security on a Sunday!) found the F-86, 2 x 88mm guns, a torpedo and a navy gun turret, but no CF-100. Amazingly it IS possible that I missed it.

Well, I must say that I tend to leave details out when I store stuff in my mind -limited RAM, old memory, slow processor and all of that, you know . . .

In any case, the posters here are right, Fort Henry and the RMC are of course, not the same location. Still, the F-86 is there looking to the bay. And the tanks and other weaponry. And yes, I drove in my pov all the way around the RMC on a beautiful Saturday.

Brad, as you well know, the girls in the Canadian French - speaking region have something special in their step, and whether they are skinny or heavy, ugly or cute, tall or short, all have certain grace that makes you turn and look . .. and drool . . .

Of course, as a Texan, when they greet me, I like to believe that they are saying:
