It's the blue one, coded "F21". ;)

I am seriously impressed with where the Collings Foundation has been going with their collection lately... they seem to be on quite the Naval kick at the moment, can a Tigercat or 'Poon be far behind? :D

Fascinating. I would think since it was owned by the Marines, it would never see air underneath it's tires, since the Marines follow the same strict stance on there aircraft like the Navy, right? Or am I wrong? How did the CF come about acquiring this one? I'm all for a beautiful static bird (that I thought had no chance of flying ever again) being restored and flown across the country. Great Monday.

WOW!! It's great to see another Hellcat on its way to flying again. What a fantastic addition for the Collings Foundation. It will make for a great addition to their Naval aircraft fleet.

Somewhat related question: does CF still fly their Avenger?

Actually at least 2 more. The restoration it is stopping to help with is also going to be a flyer. :drink3:

It was a trade with the Marine Corps.. This airframe will be used to make fixtures for Jack Crouls project. It will then be sent off to American Aero for a complete restoration. More information to come :)

Add this one and Jack Croul's Hellcat to the two that are being restored for the Tennesee Museum of Aviation and that just about doubles the flying Hellcats.

The detour, would that be Breckenridge, Texas?
