<< It's almost considered a foregone conclusion that HBO's The Pacific will sweep the Emmy Award categories for miniseries, due in no small part to the writing work of co-executive producer Bruce C. McKenna who scripted 7 of the 10 installments and is nominated along with Robert Schenkkan for penning the final episode. Now, HBO's sister company Warner Bros is getting in on his WWII action. The studio has made a preemptive buy of The Battle of Midway, a McKenna pitch for a 3D film about the June 4-6, 1942, turning point of the war. I'm told the studio bought the pitch late last week, and that it is being fast tracked, with McKenna expected to turn in a script in 8 weeks for a film that will likely carry a price tag around $200 million. >>

My only question is: Will Erik Estrada be in it?

that they had just returned from helping save Britain during the Battle of Britain and they were immediately reassigned to the Hornet so they could attack the Japanese at Midway!

With the Dixie Wing SBD, Kate and Zero we did a History Channel special on Midway.

Lake Erie substituted for the Pacific and the city of Akron become the Akagi. Going back to this location Im sure would help out the budget!

I hope the producers can get access to an Air Force Base, so they can film some C-130's to take the place of the Japanese Mavis/Emily flying boats. They can save a BUNCH of money by doing that! Then they can spend the rest of the 199 Million on the overpaid Hollywood actors and actresses. Maybe it can have some good acting now with the big budget!

Maybe this will be an incentive for the Cavanaugh Flight Museum to get their Panther up and flying again!

(I really start feeling old when I realize how many members of the starring cast of the '76 version are gone - Heston, Fonda, Ford, Coburn, Mitchum, Mifune, even Pat Morita. Biggest names left I guess would be Hal Holbrook, Robert Wagner, Tom Selleck and Cliff Robertson.)

Just think, the first time they wanted to do a Midway film there were serious discussions about buying all 6 remaining flyable Finnish Brewsters! It obviously didn't come to fruition and they were all scrapped. Still one of the biggest what if's in warbird lore.
