The photo quality is not great, I was still using an Argus C-3. After this I purchased a Canon SLR. I hope some of you will still enjoy them. The people in the pix are my wife and three kids.

The TBM and the Red P-40 are still with the CAF. The TBM is the one that was used in close encounters of the third kind and is now based in Colorado.

Awesome pictures! It's so weird to see so many warbirds in civvie markings until you realize that military markings really didn't come into popularity until the later part of the 70's.

One question - why is the A-20 painted that awful red? It looks like it might be some kind of primer. I've never seen a red primer before. Anyone?

I remember it when it was in primer and it was a darker red oxide primer. Wonder if it's the exposure or lighting that makes it look that bright?

Great pics, thanks for posting. It really brings back memories. You can see the twin mustang in the pic of red nose. I also wonder where that "zero" is now?

The photo was taken with slow speed Kodachrome and was very dark. I lightened with PhotoShop. It was darker red in the original slide, but still red.

Great pics! My first camera was a Argus C-3. I used it for years, until it was stolen out of my glovebox in the mid 80s. I ran across one in mint condition at a yard sale for about 15 bucks a few years ago..I almost bought it for nostalgia. Kinda wish I had, now.

As for the A-20 paint job, here's a scan from a promotional book put out by the CAF in the mid '70s. I still have the well-worn copy I got at the Selfridge AFB airshow in '77. A few years ago I found one in mint condition for a dollar in a used magazine bin.

Are those post war mods on the A-20 ? Look at the nose, it looks like window openings. If the case, never seen any like that before

Does the gray on gray nose area inidcate that this is a former Royal Canadian Navy aircraft? Anyone?

made a trip down there with my parents and older brother around the same timeframe.., looks like my father pearing over the Stearman.,. same pose he would have made.., but when we were there the B-29 had landed just days before. She was all opened up and my father lifed us both up in to the cockpit., but he would not enter.., he just stared up at us from the bombbay.., we said 'Dad.. come on up!'.., but he just shook his head and his eyes glazed over.., too many memories were pouring out of that aircraft for him to handle.

I remember the redwhiteblue P-38 as well. That was a great trip!!!

Great pictures Bill! As far as I'm concerned you can't have too many threads like these, neat stuff. The two pics of the P-40 still in it's Dillon color scheme are probably the best I've seen of that aircraft. I like it!
