97 degrees!!! Boy I wish we could get a cold spell like that. Been in triple digets over 50 days already this year and less than 5 inches of rain.

Spent a few hours there today, had a good time. The heat wasn't bad at all. I spent a bunch of years in south Texas (Corpus Christi), the lack of humidity here works well with a fat boy like me.

I do have a question for Derek or anybody else that can help. There was a nice red and white Chipmunk there parked on the grass with the civilian stuff, or at least we thought it was a Chipmunk. The sign on the plane gave the name, it wasn't DeHavilland, but it did say it was a "Chipmunk fuselage". About that time the F-16 came over at tree top level with the burners lit, we got sidetracked and never had a chance to go back to it. I remember Super Chipumnk style tailfeathers, a 3-bladed prop, and early style canopy. Any help for the braindead would be appreciated!

Thanks, Tom

Thought about going to this but the lure of the Poudre River on a hot summer day was more appealing....so I went fishing.....'sides, sometime when I go fishing on the Poudre I get an airshow anyway, we've been buzzed by Chinooks and C-130's numerous times up there.....looks like Bertz put quite the polish on 'Stang Evil', did Thibodeau show up with any of his stuff?

Did not see Thibodeau's P-51 or others - he may have been at the Morgan Adams fundraiser held at Centennial yesterday. Lots of cool cars Lambo's Pony's and Bugatti  ) and even cooler planes (couple B-25's and assorted warbirds)

I will be the first to admit that I am not a big supporter of the CAF, but I am still wondering why everyone keeps complaining about the so called "tramp stamp". I actually wish they would go back to the early to mid 60's civlilian colors complete with CONFEDERATE AIR FORCE painted in nice letters on the plane. Since that probably won't happen and people will continue to complain, I have an easy solution....call the CAF and ask them how much cold hard cash it would take to remove the "tramp stamp" from all of their planes. Once you get that figure, whip out the old check book, write the check for that amount and then give it to them with the stipulation that the "stamp" will be removed. I think that is a very easy solution that is a win-win for both sides; the CAF gets the money they need and the "stamp haters" get rid of them! Pretty simple solution! :D
Before I forget, very, very nice pics. Wish I could have made it down there.

How do you put a $ number on priceless? All the good publicity that these stamps bring the CAF is immeasureable!

Not to us, no... but to the general public? I think they are probably on to something there, brand recognition being what it is.

Cheers,
Richard

Which P-47 is that? Is it Duffy's?

Thanks in advance,

This is gonna be trouble I know it. . . . If someone else had/has a better plan than what the CAF is doing then how come they aren't doing it?? It seems to me that like them or not, the CAF has kept a lot of planes in the air that otherwise would not be - at least a single B-29 comes to mind. Plus and this is just a guess - I assume that the insurance to keep many of these planes is significantly lower as a large group than if individuals were trying to go it alone as well. Love it or hate it, it seems to be working for the CAF from what I can see.
