B-25H "Barbie III" Coming to East Coast

Tue Jul 07, 2009 3:55 pm

Hello all,

There's been a few casual mentions of it, but I wanted to make it official and mention it here on WIX.

The B-25H Mitchell "Barbie III" has been sold as of June 1st and will be heading East after it's time in Denver this summer. The organization that purchased the aircraft is History Flight, Inc. of Marathon, FL and will be added to their current aircraft ride program with their two AT-6 Texans and N2S Stearman. They are a 501c3 Non-Profit foundation and use the aircraft rides as fundraisers for their MIA and WWII battle grave research and expedition program in the Pacific.

Visit their website at: http://www.historyflight.com

The plan is for the B-25 to remain in Denver until August 15th, then it will fly to Shirley, NY (on Long Island) and will be doing rides there through September 11th. It will then move to Gaithersburg, MD in the Washington DC area offering rides for a week and will then move South to end up in Marathon for the Winter. The group is planning to tour it in Florida in 2010 and is also planning another NY trip as well as some other locations in planning.

The Warbirds Unlimited Foundation is operating the aircraft on behalf of the owner, History Flight until August 15th when it departs Colorado.

To clarify any speculation, the B-25H was formerly owned by the Weary Warriors, a syndicate of owners in the Chicago area. It was operated under a lease by the Warbirds Unlimited Foundation in Mesa, AZ under an exemption letter. It was the owners and not Warbirds Unlimited that made the move to sell the aircraft and Warbirds Unlimited still exists and will carry on with a PT-17 Stearman and J-3 Cub that will fly later this year -- and potential heavier iron in 2010.

So, for those of you on the East Coast and in Florida, you'll be seeing a rare B-25 coming to your side of the world soon! History Flight is a client of mine now, so I'll be adding new information as it becomes available. Their new website is my work too... so please let me know what you think.

I am sure there will be several tech stops across, but as for an official tour stop, not as far as I know. I'll certainly let everyone know if that is the case.

Rats. She's getting further away from me now. Will she be staying in FL most of the time or are there possibilities of her touring the country?

Coming soon to an airport near ME! Sounds like her first tour is up and down the East Coast, just wintering in Florida, down in the Keys. We have these big spinning storm things called Hurricanes in the Summer Months! Don't want to be in the Keys if one comes in. Only one road in and out

I would change her to NMF and mark her to look like BONES, and let the remaining AAC/AAF vets ang aircraft manufacturer employees of the era sign the aircraft, and continue to fly her as BONES. Great to have the 2nd B-25H model to roll off the assembly line closer to me. I can smell the exhaust and feel the propwash now!!!! Ahhhhhhhh.......

AFAIK the airplane will be staying in the colors she's in now for at least the immediate future.

I hope so. Glad to see a CBI representative.

No reason to mess with perfection.

Ryan,

The new site looks very polished and nice. I like that idea of that $50 off coupon. One minor nit - right now on the front page, it shows the same dates for the NY and MD stops, but the interior pages show the later dates for MD which I take to be correct.

This Mitchell is at the top of my want-to-see list for the type, so I'll try to catch up with it when it is in NY. Shirley is a long slog from the city or the other burbs though. I may have to cut a deal with my wife that she can go shopping in the Hamptons, which will cost me a more than a ride would.

Whoops, I'll be changing that this week... :-) It's hard to tell you guys apart sometimes... that's why I sent that hawk out to eliminate one of you (heh heh heh) - but alas he failed

Yeah, I will not forget the "hawk"!

I think John was on that flight...when the hawk attacked me...
Thanks Ryan!

Ryan, a random thought. As long as Barbie is to be out on the east coast, has anyone considered asking NEAM to pull its H out for a joint ramp shot? The two snub-noses together would be quite a photo op.
