RCAF Voodoo 101001

Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:17 pm

Last year I came into possession of a large chunk of aluminum skinning from the nose of RCAF CF-101 Voodoo 101001, formerly USAF 56-0253. It still retains all of its paint, including the large black painted 01. I was wondering if anyone knew of any old photos of 101001, preferably from its RCAF service days, but any will do. I'd like to properly display the skin on my wall with a decent framed photo of the aircraft in better days. Thanks!

Hey,

BLR on here could probably help you out.

You could also check out:

http://www.ody.ca/~bwalker/caf_voodoos_ ... d_list.htm

The link didn't contain much info, but if you e-mail Mr. Walker and ask, he might be able to scrounge more info on 101001.

Good luck,

David

I don't have any photos of 101001, I was gonna suggest you try the Canada Aviation Museum ( www.aviation.technomuses.ca ) but I see on their website they're not taking orders for photos at this time. You can still try sending them an email to see if they have something, tell them you're researching the plane and they may be able to send you a high-res digital copy that you can print off.

BTW, Bill Walker if your reading this, on your website your refer to CF-101 101052 - Ex USAF s/n 57-400, F-101F-96-MC. With 416 All Weather Fighter Squadron, CFB Bagotville, PQ. On display at Canadian Museum of Flight and Transportation, Langley, BC. The museum scrapped this plane years ago and it no longer exists.

BLR - thanks for the update on 101052.

Hawkeye - don't see exactly 101001, but there are several typical CF-101s at http://craig.backfire.ca/imgbrowse/mili ... 101-voodoo and at http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/site/e ... olst_e.asp

101001 was used as an instructional airframe, and they often melted away, piece by piece, before being struck off the books.

Sort-of on the subject so I thought I would share. I picked up a bit of a CF-101 from that almighty parts source "ebay" a while back. I don't know which airframe it came from but I was told by the seller that it was from a crash however the section was retrieved from a junkyard.

After a chance meeting on youtube I've aquired another photo of 001, a squadron photo. Its the correct side of the aircraft and clearly shows the section that I now have. One side is straight, where the panel meets the nosecone, and is about 2 feet long, the other side is jagged and torn, with the tear separating the two zeros, leaving "01" on the chunk. At the bottom remains one of the latches from the opening maintenance panel. I dont have a photo of it at the moment, as its been left at my parents house. Maybe in the next week or so...

Nice Squadron photo Hawkeye! So it is just a small part of the nose skinning then...

I went home this weekend and grabbed a couple shots of my skin section if anyones interested. As you can see, its certainly seen better days, but its a nice souvenir from Canadas cold war days.

Back in the 80s I stumbled across Crawford Metals in Belleville and discovered a heap of 101s being scrapped. It was a sad sight to see.
