Bombers In Loveland

Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:17 am

The Collings Foundation is at BJC, Metro airport in Broomfield in nw Denver for another 2 days, with the B-24, B-17, B-25, and 51C. I got a nice tour thorough the 24 and got to sit in the pilot seat. Thanks, Rob. Kind of intimidating for a little plane pilot, lot's of levers! They are going up to FNL, Loveland for the weekend, leaving Thurs early afternoon. Tours inside all three are $6 children, $12 adults; rides vary, but are about $400. Not many chances to ride in a 24!

Very cool.
I wouldl like to go to Broomfield before the holiday, but work been too busy.

I am shooting for the 4th at FNL.
Last year was great, and this year the weather should be perfect.
Great for picture taking!!!

Jay Leno has posted the video he did of the B-24 when the aircraft was in Burbank. There is a very interesting part of the video towards the end where he interviews a WWII B-24 bombardier. The B-17 and B-25 were also done and will be on his website in the coming weeks.

I know the link should be in the base theater section, but this is at least a related topic. :hide:

I think the 24 is a much better ride than the 17.

It is Thursday afternoon, the Collings Bombers are at FNL, Ft. Collins Loveland, and will be here for the next few days. I got a ride up from Denver Metro, BJC, in the dual control P-51C, a nice way to travel!

Regardless, Mr. Greenwood got the best ride!

B-24

As for which is the best bomber, I can't pick just one. I was lucky enough to get to fly the Collings B-17 when they were at Ft. Collins, 3V5, about 1995. Yesterday they had an extra space for the evenig flight so I got a ride in the B-24, and got to sit just behind the pilots so I could see the speeds, power settings, etc. At 6000' and 30", 2000 rpm, indicated arispeed was about 170 mph, so I'd guess about 185 mph true. Ther is a good number of folks out today to tour the planes and the 17 and the 51 have just come back from rides.

Today at Ft.Collins-Loveland (FNL) 4th of July.

Nice day today. Good weather at Ft. Collins-Loveland (FNL).
Wished I could have made it to Broomfield Colorado (BJC) earlier but it has been a busy work week.
FNL is a great airport and offers some great mountain views!

Did get some good shots. There was a bit of haze in the air, but the aircraft looked great!
Got to talk with Bill Greenwood about his ride in the P-51C.
Sounds very cool!

The Mustang made a few quick passes. It looked really nice!
People looked like they were having a good time.

spookythecat I was finally was able to get those shots from below. They didn't turn out half bad.
