Heritage & Legacy flights, who likes them?

Wed May 21, 2008 6:39 pm

Who likes to see these flights? ... I'm not a fan. Seems no big deal to me. I understand the good intentions, but I'm just not a great fan of modern warplanes. I wonder if there would be anything that would really stand out as a very cool formation flight of currently flying aircraft. Whether they be current military aircraft or warbirds.

Personally I enjoy seeing them. Would like to see more A/C in formation though. And maybe a bomber flight :P

its about history, honor, duty sacrifice

I like them. The Heritage Flights are usually good, although the one at Pittsburgh this year was a F-22 and F-16 since the P-47 couldn't make it. It was "different." I like the Legacy flights as well, but they don't fly as low as the Air Force. I love seeing the Corsair with the F-18, but they are so high. :?

I would like them more, if I was flying one of the a/c. :D

I enjoy them and would like to see a bomber heritage flight as well.

I actually got to see the Grumman Cat flight back in I think 1997 or 98. WOW!! :D

Not a fan of heritage flights at all. I could care less about seeing modern and vintage aircraft flying together in one formation. I think the pilots get off on it more than anyone.

I like the Heritage and Legacy flights.
It's really nice when they get four up up, ie: P-51, F-86, F-4, F-15, etc. Really shows the development of military aircraft.

I personally enjoy them, just seeing how far we have come in aviation is unbelieveable. Whatever air show I'm at the crowd shuts up during it, so it has some sort of impact on the crowd.

I think they are probably more popular with the general public than with enthusiasts. For us, the novelty has worn off. I understand that the AF and Navy regard them as very successful recruiting promotions. That's fine, I can think of a lot of airshow acts that are less interesting than the Heritage/Legacy flights.

I've seen the Legacy Flight about once, so I don't have much of an opinion on that program, but nonetheless they're always a good performance.

I can never get enough of the Heritage. I've seen it time and time again, and it never gets old! The music set to the routine is especially moving, and definitely sends cold-chills down your spine.

I'll second that

They do seem to have quite an effect on the airshow crowd; seems like just about everyone is paying attention, as compared to what happens during the average aerobatic routine.

I just wish the "vintage" a/c got as much exposure during the flight as the
late model kerosene burners.

I like Heritage Flights and Legacy Flights VERY much IF the following conditions are Met:

At LEAST 3 aircraft in the formation (preferably 4) and at least 3 separate eras are represented. An example of a GREAT Heritage Flight (that includes aircraft currently qualified to fly in a HF) for me would be the

F-86, F-4, F-15, F-22.

A GREAT Legacy Flight for me would be:

F8F, AD/A-1, FJ-4B, F/A-18

I don't like these flights at all when they are only TWO aircraft and I don't care for a 3 ship flight that includes 2 out of the 3 from the same era such as an F-15 and F-16 flying with a P-51.

Vintage Jet Warbirds from the 50s and 60s are among my favorite aircraft and I would rather see a flight of 4 F-86s than a mix that was heavy with more modern aircraft. I hope that more aircraft such as the F-100 Super Sabre, F9F Panther and/or Cougar, a Naval F-4 and others can eventually become part of Heritage or Legacy Flights.

I really would have loved to see one of those Large formation (5 or 6 aircraft) "Grumman Cat" formations back when the F9F Panther was flying.
