Another F2-G Super Corsair to fly?

Tue Mar 18, 2008 4:47 pm

According to the article in this month's AOPA magazine on Bob Oodegard (sp) (an excellent read BTW), there is another F2-G that "was sold to a person from Ohio" that is being restored to fly. The last I knew Bob had the Crawford Museum's F2. Is this the one that chenged hands, or is there a 3rd one ot there?

It is the one that was at Crawfords. It was sold recently.

Yes, it is an ex-Soplata Corsair. It left his farm about 12 or 13 years ago. It certainly wasn't there when I visited him in 1996.

That kind of sucks as Walter was really wanting to see that F2G restored at Crawford.

Maybe Walter can see it fly over his house now? With #57 alongside.

It's not a matter of flying or not flying it's a matter of this aircraft having history to the Cleveland area. It would have been nice to see it stay with them.

Walter has always been vehemently against any of 'his' aircraft flying again.

Although I don't agree, and I think the 'proper' place for a warbird is in the skies, I have to say that part of me supports following his wishes, at least while he's still alive. After all, if it weren't for him...we don't know if those airplanes would even exist today.
