Rare photo for a 1961 aircraft .. very nice.

Note no refueling probe or boom on tail. The VTOL rare movable tailpipe also was on girst 11 pre ships

Check out the rest of that album! Some of the planes are very misidentified but it's great to see some of Ed Maloney's birds there - can anyone ID that PBY? And note the USCG PBM next to it...

the original mud mover!

It is an A2F-1 Intruder, bureau number 148616.

It sure looks clean.

The later version, A-6A Intruder had the re-fueling probe that gives the aircraft an even more distinct nose. The EA-6B Prowler is a four seater, 40 inch stretch on the fuselage with more powerful engines.

Fly fast, fly safe,

Further along there is an L-19 with a C180 looking tail on it. I never saw that before.

That's a Cessna model 321 (military designation was OE-2, later redesignated O-1C). It was similar in appearance to the Bird Dog
but used C-180 components (wings, empennage, new fuselage, etc.). Not many were built....

wow, great picks in that album!

is the aircraft labeled "97-C3-25 1961 Lockheed P2V with Target Drones" actually a Neptune? It looks like an Invader to me. Whatever it is, I love the colour scheme.

That O-1 almost looks like a Siai Marchetti SM1019E with a piston engine. Compare with:

Cool photos, thanks Jack! Man, that person can't identify an aircraft correctly to save their life. They should go on airplane ID probation! :D

The P2V/B-26 is a Navy version called a JD1 and it's painted in a utility squadron "VU" colors.

Unless I missed a photo in the group, I didn't see a PBM...there are a couple of shots of a P5M Marlin.... The photo tags are for the P3M, which were built in 1931-32 time period and obsolete and on the way out of use within a year or so.
