The Starliner was never used by any military organization.

That being said, there is a Super Constellation in Delaware that was a civilian plane that is now painted up as a C-121.

Yikes...how many posts do we see that are not truly warbird related. I don't think the Constellation topic is hurting anyone's feelings being posted here...

No feelings hurt - just thought since we have separate forums set up for different categories we should use them.

I know that there are a lot of crossover topics, and I will not get bent out of shape if this discussion and other similar ones get continued here in this forum.

We all love vintage airplanes whether warbirds or not.

Yeah, forcing that completely civilian L-1049E Super Connie into becoming an Air Force C-121C was quite a stretch in my opinion . It's a real shame that they couldn't have procured a true former military Super Connie. I think that the AMC Museum at Dover AFB should have procured the C-121C at the NASM Udvar-Hazy facility at Dulles (being painted in West Virginia ANG markings apparently), and the NASM should have taken the 1049E and restored as a civilian airliner (Eastern Air Lines possibly?), but that may not have been a realistic thought. I wish them the best in the restoration and I hope they find the radome they need for the nose.

I'm not wild about the former civilian Connie at the AMC Museum being "turned" into a military bird that it never was. But, they are doing a heck of a job and at least this aircraft didn't end up in the scrapper. I guess you work with what you can get your hands on...

WOW! It is great news to here of the Auburn Connies being saved & not more headed for the scrap heap. Just think of all the History involved with these classic propliners! We here at the BAHF from NJ are involved in a aviation preservation project to save another great propliner from destruction,the Mighty Boeing C97G STRAT. We hope to return this Classic Proptransport to the Skies sometime in the near future. Our volunteer workforce is hard at work at the hangar for the rebirth of the Mighty STRAT! THANKS JR

And then there is the HARS Connie in Australia that is actually C-121C 54-0157 c/n 4176 that is displayed as as a civilian aircraft.

Yes... although only two were in Maine; the third was in Florida.
