I heard the people at the Holiday Inn are still looking for Bill, seems like they want their canopy cover back.

Pete, thanks for the photos. By the way, Dan Quayle says you need another e on the end there; AND FOR ONCE, JUST THIS ONCE, I AGREE WITH ONE OF THOSE REPULSICANS. So you are welcome, and I appreciate the thanks. It is expensive to fly the 1700 mile round trip to Oshkosh, the hours on the engine, enroute fuel, the $1500 for a week's motel, food, etc. and none of this is paid for by the EAA. But people really seem to enjoy seeing the plane and there are never enough Spits or Hurris there. You can see some of the exhaust residue on the side in the photo, no matter how much I think it needs a wash many people say how beautiful it is. I can say it flys just fine. I wish I could do a short solo in the show, or at least more than the "follow the leader and stay in line and make right turns" so as to show off the plane better. I think the Spitfire and it's history deserve it, but of course that event is about so much more than just my flying. I sat on the porch and talked to Hal Weekly, then heard Gen. Rall, then had a photo with Sen, McGovern at 927 and that is pretty high cotton. By the way do you have any details of the day or time of that landing, is it rwy 36?

Jake, yes they are kind of like each other except the Democruds are better spellers, especially when it comes to potato and welcome. And was that Democruds or Demoncruds? Actually my favorite politican was a friend in college, Homer Koliba. His Dad was a state representative, I think from Smithville, and Homer planned on running for that seat after college when the Dad retired. When I asked him if he was a Republican or Democrat, he answered very honestly that he was "a Homercrat, that he was for Homer as No.1".

Mark, you obviously don't recognize an original Spitfire canopy cover. Perhaps your security clearance doesn't go that high. I did say original; but that may be original from me and not from Supermarine. If you promise not to tell anyone, I'll let you in on a secret. You can find a close replica at Bed, Bath, and Beyond in the sheet section under Twin, X-Long. Why don't I have one of those fancy Bruce custom covers like a lot of other guys? Because I don't have room to store it. Also at $15 on sale these are cheap enough that I can retire it every few months when it gets dirty.

And now for a serious question....
What makes the bedsheet a better choice than something offered commercially (besides your storage issue)? I would think that a cotton bedsheet would get damp and would not stop dust from getting through, and would not be very good at blocking UV.

One time while spraying variprime inside the horizontal of a Spartan Executive I found little green specks on the fuselage after removing the bed sheets. This was over 10" away. The little paint specks just floated right through the fabric.

BDK, you may be correct about the sheet, which I don't think is cotton since it doesn't shrink when wet. It may not be a good UV block. It is however $15 and keeps the dust off the canopy, and must help some with the UV. It does deflect rain out of the cockpit and dries pretty fast when the sun comes out. As for UV, for years I have usually worn a white polo or T shirt at shows and thought I was protected. I have noticed some sun effects on my shoulders, so the worst rays obviously are not stopped by just a cotton blend shirt. If anyone knows of a better cover I am open ot suggestions, but I can't store those Bruce type ones. My cover will roll or fold up into a bundle the size of a cigar box.
