Sunday August 5th was offically "Spitfire Day" and with summer sunshine forecast ( after weeks of rain ), drew a big crowd for a "non air show" event !
Sorry all, I couldn't stop myself posting this ! You have to admit ~ that is a LOT of Triumph Spitfires ......

Since I'm building a triumph TR3 with warbird parts from many different models I like the Spits -either 4 wheeled or 3. I've built a couple of GT-6 triumphs and the TR3 is coming along slowly. I hope to combine the warbird stuff with 50's hot rod parts, like a joe hunt magneto and Moon discs on the wheels. I remember when Earls Racing equipment sold lots of aircraft parts for racing... wish I could find that stuff now.

I had a 1973 spitfire. That car was the most fun to drive! Once I came around a curve on a twisty turny road and almost hit a cow. Scared the heck out of me. Only Spitfire that I could come close to affording. Thanks for the pic, sure brings back memories.

Ahhh, Earl's Supply. What a treasure trove. I used to spend hours there in the 70's when I was a wrench for Parnelli Jones' team. They had stuff that would be good to have even if you never used it!

Those of us who ever owned an English auto will certainly appreciate my favorite bumper sticker:
"Brits drink warm beer because Lucas makes their refrigerators!"
For the record, I enjoyed almost every minute of the 13 months I drove my TR6.

The single seat Spit in those pictures is the BoB's Mk II, right?
Anyway, that's the only Spit I've ever seen with the two chordwise stiffeners or flow dividers on the upper surface of each wing. Was that an element unique to the Mk II, or is something else going on with this aircraft?

Ah -- Lucas electrics. When in the military a long time ago I had a lovely MGB-GT. I forget the details, but to register it on base I needed a safety inspection that included such things as horn, backup lights, brake lights, directionals and etc. I never did get the thing properly registered with the Army because I could never get all the required stuff to work at the same time! Something electrical was ALWAYS non-functional. I spent a lot of time at attention in front of my C. O. because of Lucas electrics...

I think it's something to do with a battle damage repair some time in the past..

The Triumphs were tough little cars. I had a new Spitfire in 1980 and got hit head on by an Oldmobile. Got away with a badly broken arm.

No, its a Mk V owned by HAC. The Mk V was the first to have cannons , I don't know about the wing strengtheners.

Lordy...Lordy...Don't talk to me about Lucas electrics. Owned a '56 Austin-Healy 100/4 and a Triumph Bonneville 750. Got stranded in a few out of the way places with both.
Lucas or not, sure wish I still had the A-H.
