Funny what is allowed once a bird gets out of sight of the home shores. The Brits were very proud of the nose art they had on their planes during the first Gulf War. The USAF even allowed nose art back on their planes during the 50th anniversary of WW2 and during the start of the war on terror. Of course, the USMC are just smarter then most. When I was on the Saipan during the late 80's and early 90's, once we were over the horizon the armor plates would come out and be bolted on the helos. It was not long after that the nose art would appear. Once the deployment was over the armor panels would come off and with it the nose art.
Nose art is just that, art to keep up the troops morale. How long will it be before the females in the cockpits and flightlines decide that they want their own nose art of some "hunk". Sounds a lot better then having to hide or paint over the art when a bird comes home.

We're doing the same junk in the USAF. Nose art is officially verboten, but occasionally the leadership looks the other way. When "they" want to remove it, they remove it.

Yes, of course.We would'nt want to offend the nags would we? Political correctness, the fairy position.

Technically, NOTHING outside of the "Let's Roll" official AF noseart is legal...it all depends on how far which Commander at what level is willing to let things get.

When I was at Barksdale earlier this year, danm near every B-52 on the line had nose art, so someone in ACC is turning a blind eye there at home station.

Nudity is definitely right out, though. A shame....

I've already made my views on nose art perfectly plain in "Off Topics", but once again, I don't know why this stuff causes such a fuss!!!!

...because offending someone has gradually become one of the greatest transgressions an American can make.

It's no longer the responsibility of the individual to realize that there are many points of view in this world, and that there is no "right to be not offended" -- that you need to have thick skin and the fortitude to stand by your own beliefs.

It has somehow now been turned around and become a collective societal responsibility to not offend.

I don't know when this train left the station, but it's about time that it was stopped.

Because most commanders at every level worry more about their career and their next big promotion than they do about unit morale.

I was and still am offended because some Officer's wife had the audacity to be offended at an airshow by the naked ladies on some of the WWII bombers. So I understand, that started all the PC C%&%$&%^P in CAF of covering up the offensive parts...and thus covering up a portrayal of history. Please forgive my non-PC comment but I'm a woman and I've never been offended by the naked nose art on planes....I even flew a CAF plane with a naked girl on it (although it looked like a baby girl not a grown woman).....it was often said that I even posed for the art....WRONG...the nose art on that plane preceded my involvement by at least 15 years. Was I offended that the guys kidded me with that...NO.

Now I must say when I bought my own warbird I decided it was a "boy plane" not a "girl plane" definitely going against tradition......but did I put a naked man on it ...NO...I wanted any nose art to reflect it's mission during the Vietnam War. As you can see from the photo linked, the propsed nose art does just that. For those that don't know...mine was a night bird at NKP, Thailand (affectionately known as Naked Fanny....OMG the horrors of saying that) and Steel Tiger was an air operation conducted from that area.
