Does anybody know who won this award? I haven't heard any news about it yet.

Many warbird owners poo-poo this award, since a certain Corsair was 'disqualified' for being too blue.

I know. The "interesting" judging for last year's "award" at Reno.

That's why I'm curious about what happened this time around.

I heard B-25 "Heavenly Body" took all the marbles this year.

Hi Dennis,

Ben Scott won the Antique Trophy for his Bull Stearman 4E (NC663K)

Heavenly Body B-25 received the Peoples Choice

Orange and white T-28C received the Warbird Trophy (NX82AW I think) and I think the other post meant John Lane's retored TBM, not Corsair.

Sorry, gotta run or I'd go more into detail...............Roger

Nope, the brouhaha is over the FG-1D Corsair John restored for Gary Kohs. Judges complained that the Glossy Sea Blue John used wasn't 'right.' Give me a break..... John's not exactly new to this game. Jim

Thanks gentlemen for the "competition" results!

Yep, the controversy is over Gary's FG-1D at Reno 2003. The judges seemed to have decided ahead of time which type of aircraft WASN'T going to win and then were extremely critical in their judging to "validate" their bias.

When all the controversy I was going on I emailed the person at Rolls Royce responsible for this competition and asked what the judge's qualifications were. He didn't answer the question except to say that the chief judge had lots of judging experience. He didn't indicate where he got it and I know he didn't get it in the warbird judging at OSH, as that is something I did for a dozen years or so. All in all, I had high hopes that this competition would become the premier judge event for historic aircraft, but it clearly tainted now, in my opinion.

Pretty amazing considering the quality of work and commitment to detail it showed. Maybe the judges didn't like the 1830 hanging on it? If that was the issue, I'm not sure what else could have been done that would have been acceptable to them since no serviceable original engines are available.

Hello - I'm new to the group but had heard there was a F-100 in the running for the trophy and wondered how it came out.

Thanks,

Tom P.

Didn't come out as a winner, unfortunately for the owner, Greg Forbes. This is the plane as displayed at this years Moffett Air Expo Image

I agree that the FG-1D guys got screwed especially since "Marines Dream" won previously in so called Ken Walsh marking.
What I liked about the winning L-4 is that Colin Powers is a friend of mine and is in our EAA Warbird Squadron but more so that he did it himself in his own hanger starting out with just a rotting pile of junk. It's a great accomplishment for an average joe pilot. I think it's something any wixer would love to achieve.

One would think the Judges would be well know, all round top pick's, etc.
All with a back ground that can be proven..............

Cheers,

Lynn
