Thought i'd post an issue I have reguarding the documented rated data on this engine. (V-1710-39)

I have an issue in establishing the correct rated FTH for the -39, I have some data that list the FTH as 15,000ft RAM and other data as low as 9,600ft static. I also have RAAF documents that show variations in results and test data that shows 12,300 FTH at 348mph @ 1200hp. I know from past experience that Curtiss can not always be trusted to release the correct average performance figures and some figures seem to be out of all logic and calculation.

The data is so varied I can not reliably find a figure that I trust, which in turn will be used in a Computor Flight Model i'm constructing.

Looking to find perhaps a graph of "HP vs ALT" for the 1710-39, that may help clarify the issues or at least add evidance to one side. Williing to offer 1710-81 data or any other graphs/data that I have in exchange. My knowledge data base is primarily RAAF Aircraft of WW2 (especially P40s).

Thanks in advance for any help clarifying this issue.

From a confirmed P40 nutter!!!

Steve.
