A tread from fly Past, worth it.....Agree or not to as to why :roll:

This was a professionally organised photoshoot to a pre-planned schedule with air to ground radio. The aircraft was making one of some twenty five odd passes over stone monoliths from various directions.

The site is sloping and in this shot the aircraft was actually flying down the unobstructed fairway of a golf course/airfield complex.

Notwithstanding that all Warbird flying has elements of risk, the pilot is extremely professional and experienced at flying in this environment.

The shot is full frame on a 210mm lens.

The important thing about this photo is that you really cannot make any judgment calls from the information provided. If you didn’t have any more information you could assume everything from flying through a dense forest to landing on a tree lined runway to flying over a North American version of Stonehenge for a calendar photo shoot (now who would believe that).

When I first saw this photo it reminded me of video I’ve seen from the "Warbirds over Wanaka" air show, where the planes drop below the trees and horizon. It looks impressive, and I’m sure the crowd loves it, but I’m also sure the valley adjacent to the runway is much larger than your sense of perspective would have you believe.

You are right about the reaction at Wanaka when people see the 'shot down ' aircraft disappear into the ground, off the end of the airfield [ situated on a plateau ] and down in to a very large valley. Many a time I have had to assure people next to me that both plane and pilot are OK and will reappear to take part in the rest of the show. Course some take more convincing if the pyrotechs get he timing right and there is the fireball as well
