If you see this ad it’s available I will not respond to IS THIS AVAILABLE. It is. 1990 C-27A US AirForce cargo aircraft. Great to start a fire fighting business they aircraft can only be used as a personal aircraft no commercial work for people hauling but can be used on a permit for special use.

The location is definitely not Bristol, WI...

That looks similar to some of the aircraft the USA left in Afghanistan.

Racine WI's Batten field (KRAC) has 2 C-27's that have been parked for years. If you go on flightaware and type in RAC then look at the map and diagram you can zoom in. I've been past them numerous times. They are white and last I saw them they had DOSAW on the tail. I believe that stands for Department of State Air Wing. Parked between them is an OV-1 Mohawk owned by the former airport manager.

In the 1990s, the USAF operated a single squadron of A models in Panama. When the Canal Zone was returned to Panamanian control around 99, the airplanes went to AMARC. We were all shocked, as they were near new in AF terms. I understand a few were loaned to various agencies.

When it comes to C-27s, it can get confusing, as there are G222s, A models and J models - and I’m not the expert, there may be more variants. Without more info, I’d guess these in the ad were towed over from AMARC.

LOL yup hard to see Lake Michigan, I think it's behind the mountains. After thinking about it, there is a place called Kenosha Military museum right at the state line next to I-94. I think the guy that owns that owns the C-27's. Years ago there was a C-130 at RAC painted in NASA colors that was based at Wallops Island and took part in missile tests. I know he owned that. It sat at Racine until it was bought by Coulson. Not sure what happened to it. But back to the C-27's A good friend (ex C-130 pilot) did a ground tour at Howard AFB in Panama. He had a lot of rides on C-27's. He called them Chuck's. I guess they'd be cool warbird if you had 20 or so friends to go to airshows and you had a pretty unlimited budget for maint. and fuel. Maybe make up a back story about how it flew
the Bin Laden mission, or hauled Aliens to and from Vegas to Groom Lake.

It would be inter to know their license status?
Limited?
Restricted?
Experimental?
That would decide their value on the market.
Can you use it to haul cargo for hire?
Adapt if for firefighting?

Even it it was very limited in commercial use, someone could legally haul their stuff. That would apply to a companies property, don't know about employees.
It would make a neat project hauler for a warbird restoration outfit or collection.


The other big question is how well supported are the engines?

The C-27J has new engines and C-130J systems.
Probably a lot better..but more expensive.
I saw what it cost for a friend to out a composite prop on his Stearman, I hate to think of the price for a set of C-130J blades.

Look at photo 3..lol at the warbirds in the background. That would give you a hint to the location.

I remember that place, driving up from Chicago to Oshkosh in 2001 we noticed it on the western side - the easiest thing to see was a CH-54, the only one I've ever seen! Load of other helicopters, aircraft and vehicles...

BTW, I don’t think the poster who mentioned Racine was trying to say these were the same airplanes, as he mentioned they were white and marked differently, I think he was simply sharing some info on C-27s. Ken

Close, 43363 Old Highway 41, Russell, IL 60075, they moved out of Kenosha probably a decade ago. Their private property was confiscated under eminent domain laws so more outlet malls could be built.

This is a great "old style" private museum. The owner has been collecting (primarily military vehicles) for decades.
