Hello all,

Yesterday's arrival of the last CH-113 helicopter at the Canada Aviation Museum, was quite an event. Expect to be able to take a close look at her later today, and will report on what I see.

Work on the North Star is progressing well. The initial polishing of non-painted areas above the waterline has been completed on both sides of the fuselage. After some experimenting we have found a very effective way of getting rid of the very considerable layer of Aluminium oxide accumulated over the last 38 years. The skin is in generally good condition, but some repairs/replacements will have to be effected later.
Polishing of fuselage below the waterline started yesterday.

Since the Methyl Bromide fire bottles are still installed on the airplane ( squibs and all!) we have also started to remove panels for access. The bottles will be removed by a licensed agency, discharged and stored for installation at a later date.

I hear from the CSTMC's fundraising staff that this year's fundraising drive is doing very well. By the time I write you again, I hope to have some numbers to quote.

That's all for now. We look forward to seeing more of you on the Star employing liberal doses of 'elbow grease'. There is lots to do, the weather has been excellent although hot, but we are enjoying the work and the by now very visible progress.

Thanks for posting this Mike... it's great to hear what's going on with this project. I am glad to see that a lot of work is going to be happening to this airframe, as it is a unique example of a very interesting aircraft. I was just wondering whether you knew if the QEC's for this aircraft were based upon those used on the Avro Lincoln, as they look very similar at first glance. Cheers, and congratulations on your efforts to help in her restoration.

I have no clue. I am an IT guy in a support role. I have no knowlege of the structures.
