That's amazing. How did he take finding out that he had a son and that he and his son were both pilots? What are the odds?

Well after Dad was born, 1/1/43, he was adopted shortly after and our adoptive grandparents moved away. There was no more contact with anyone so no one knew where Dad was living.
Then in Sept 43 Elmer came home from the war, not back to the same airbase as where he left Florence. He was about to wed his high school sweetheart when just 1 week before, Florence found out he was alive. She found him and told him they had a son and he was adopted earlier that year and she knew nothing about where he was. To say the least Florence was very upset with Elmer and they never saw each other again, or communicated. Elmer was unsure as what to do but made the right decision to get married and raise a family.
So All Elmers' life he and his wife always knew Dad was out there.
As a side note, my adoptive grandfather was very good friends with a superior court judge in the state he was adopted. Dads birth certificate, the original, was forged by court order. I always knew this because grandpa told me that. Still that document was no help in the quest.
