Hi Guys,

I am renewing my research on Dean with a passion, and I was wondering.......

What do you all think the odds are that 1) There were pictures of the recon pilots taken during the battles at Monte Cassino, 2) That if there were pictures taken any of them survived? 3) Where would I begin to look for them?

Thanks!
Karen

I don't know about your previous search, can you fill me in on any details with full name and any unit details?

Mike

Mike,

1st Lt. Dean Richard Gilmore, ASN: 0-79555, 111th Recon Squadron, awarded the DFC for aerial combat on March 15, 1944, at Monte Cassino, Italy. He was with the 111th from October, 1943, until April, 1944. Thank you so much for any help you may be able to offer.

Matt,

Footnote is a great site, but I didn't have any luck so far, but I am trying different search combinations, so perhaps I will get lucky. Thanks so much.

Karen

A trip to NARA in College Park, Maryland might be a good start. I haven't done any research there myself, but I know it is a literal treasure trove of historical items, including pictures and documents that probably haven't seen the light of day in over 60 years.

needle in a haystack search. That being said there are so many resources like the national archives that, if you have the time, you could probably find something. good luck!

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.
