What's happened since the engine failure? What caused the failure?

CFM mechanics took the engine off and sent it back to the overhaul shop.

To quote Doug, from a reply he posted on Feb 20th, "There has been a recall of the plating on the main bearings, but ours was not in the batch recalled. The only metal in the screens and filters, is silver, which is what the main bearing is plated with."

Was this a precautionary engine change or did it happen in flight?

Again, this is a quote from Doug (FG1d Pilot)

"Well, everything went well on the first flight for about 20 minutes, then the engine quit. Mike was able to dead stick it down for a greased in landing. Initial indications are main bearing failure. Mike said everthing was running great, temps in the green. He was on initial for a overhead break when it just quit. He threw the gear down and slipped it like crazy and was able to roll it on. Great job by Mike Burke."

During the first flight over Addison airport. Mike Burke dead sticked it in.

When something like this happens on the first flight, does the engine shop generally give any kind of "warranty" for their work?

Since it quit on the first flight, will they cover the costs of the overhaul or is the Cavanagh flight Museum stuck with the bill?

The shop is covering the rebuild, but has to do it along with other engines to keep things rolling.

Hats off to Mike Burke! I can only imagine "dead Sticking" and "side slipping" a Corsair. Forward visibility is so limited and maintaining some kind of pre-stall airspeed plus a miriad of other functions just to get the plane lined up with the runway. "Please bring the seat cushion back when you get it out of the laundry" Bunch of "cudos" and "attaboys" to Mike Burke!

Seat cushion isn't in the laundry. Last time it was seen was before the flight ! :shock: :lol:

Couldn't be has bad has a flaming P-47 could it :?:

The speaking of warranties our 2600s from
aircraft cylinder & turbine had a 100hr warranty.
good thing cause the first one blew before the mains
were in the wells on the first flight!
