You'll note that when they pulled the mixture and/or closed the throttle on #1 the engine seized. Not good!!
That's really good flying.
When that motor blows you sure know it and it scares the cr*p out of you!!
Been there done that!!

Oh, wow, I didn't notice that. Perhaps that's why they didn't feather it.

I imagine they wanted the power until they had the runway made.
I guarantee you that when it seized they felt it!!!

Perhaps its just the shutter speed of the camera, but it kind of looks like the #2 engine stopped rather abruptly as well. Were there problems with it also?

Either way, fantastic job of getting it down safe. Thanks for posting the video.

This happened at Heber, Ut
It is believed that the oil cooler sprung a major leak...
Yes, a Poon can maintain level flight on one engine

The PIC told me afterward that as soon as they recieved a radio call from a close-by aircraft, that Dave immediately saw that the temps were pegged on the port engine, and they started shutting it down ..as they were on the downwind leg...Steve said that he basicly turned the Harpoon into a big glider....the reason the prop wasn't feathered is that it seized on them...and as soon as they had the runway, they chopped the power on the stbd engine as well
I haven't seen the video yet myself, as my home computer is way too slow...but we had some issues just befor take-off with the tailwheel....
When they started moving the PV on the grass, the tail came up rather quickly as the power was applied abruptly...extending the tail strut fully...We signaled Steve and Dave to stop, as the tailwheel was bouncing and skidding instead of turning like it's supposed to....I tried to reach up and deflate it from the shrader valve on the strut, but couldn't reach it from below...Dave jumped out and grabbed a step ladder and got to it from above through the tail flap abovethe tail cone....It seemed to solve the problem as they taxied out...but to me it still looked like it was locking up on the way down the taxi-way....It looked like full left rudder was being used while the aircraft was trying to track left....
One thing I do know, is that nobody thought about communications..I have a hand held on order now!

Looks like the engine seized at the last minute, no windmilling at all. Whew!

I finally got to view the video...My camera stills didn't show the tail wheel as well as the video does...I didn't notice it as I was trying to watch the take off with one eye in the viewfinder and the other open as well....
Dave called the other day to let me know that he had recieved a number of offers from some really great people, that stood up to the plate and offered the use of their engines to get AW (Attu Warrior) back in the air ASAP....You's guys know who you are, and a big thanks goes out to your generosity...I am honered to know such people....
Anyway, looks like the QEC for PV-2 N7670C will be arriving, or actually, should have arrived in Heber by this time...As there is a CAF gathering/airshow event over the weekend of the 4th, AW will be static for the event, and work should start as soon as the weekend is over...Good luck Dave, wish I could be there to help...
