forgot i had this, found in another place on the hard drive, down load it and open with a veiwer so you can enlarge it you can just read it. The last para on the left it talks about the 51 did have a tail hook but it does not say anything about the NCAC humps. So I'm wondering if the airplane did the carrier test then went to the PA NG then to NCAC then back to the PA NG. ????

I was under the impression that the tail had been replaced after an accident at one point.

Alright here is the deal. The NACA P-51 was indeed one of the aircraft to have a tail hook. The aircraft was later placed on display at Pit, and then damaged by flying debris whne they were building a new road, and runway. The tail was replaced by that of another aircraft.
