This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I just finished devouring the latest WD and was fascinated with the Super Corsair cover story. I knew Odegaard's Race 57 was an old racer and was in the Reno movie but that was about the limit of my knowledge.
Are there any other surviving F2G's besides Odegaards and the Crawford Museum's bird that he's working on? BTW, where is Crawford Museum?
What eventually became of the other two Super Corsairs that were racing in '48-'49. Cleland's teammate Janazzo was killed in Race 84. 74 is Crawfords. 57 was McKillens. What about Ron Puckett's 18? Any of you Corsair guys got the scoop on these airframe #'s
I'm also confused on the tail numbers. Janazzo's 84 was NX5588N. Odegaard's orange 57 is N5588N. Did it get that N number to honor Janazzo?
The Warbird Digest story was cool but only whetted my apetite for more.

From what I understand, this was a paperwork thing. Cleland only had three F2G's that he was allowed to fly by the Navy. A fourth aircraft was acquired (for parts?) and had the paperwork transferred to it from the Jenazzo bird. That's the story I have been told... I am probably missing parts out though.

That's correct. The airframe was cut up, and used for fire training. A museum saved the prop and engine.

woo hoo!!! if that is the case, any indication if bob odegaard is involved? it would be good to see two of these in the air together

Bob was restoring it for Crawford, so he might still be involved. The only problem I see is that when Walter Soplata agreed to sell it to the Crawford museum, he would only do so if the aircraft would not be flown. Hopefully there are not some legal documents that might prevent it from flying.
