Those photos bring back memories of our one-and-only trip to Harlingen for Airsho '82--things looked much the same when we were there. The funny thing about our trip was being drawn to "corrrosion corner" and looking at the B-47, C-124 etc. for as long as I did, and wondering what would happen to them.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

At an Early Ford swap meet a couple weeks ago, I just happened to find a CAF book from that general era (with the corsair, lightening and P-40 on the cover... for $3!) to replace the one my Dad bought me at my first airshow, which has somehow mysteriously disappeared in the last 10 years. I blame my first wife... in contrast to my wonderful wife now who just last night helped put a bunch of my reenacting photos into a really NICE scrapbook. 8) But I digress.. :lol:

It is sort of interesting to think about the fact that those aircraft were only 30 something years old back then, about the age of many of the B-52s flying in service today.

Ah, the memories of the annual pilgrimmage to Airsho.

Does anyone know how many of the static's at Harlingen were scrapped after the move to Midland. The only one I know for sure was the C-54. Were any others?

Yeah, that is interesting. I remember when I was a kid and it was a big deal that the war had been over for 40 years. :lol:

The Aair Force took most of the static planes back long before the CAF moved to Midland. I don't know what was scrapped or what was saved though.
