Great old photo Jack. I know a Marine who was with VMF-223 at Bouganville...he remembers the mechanic bringing him out a fresh grilled Spam sandwich to his Corsair right before a mission.
Can't help but wonder just where that is? The Marines used two parallel fighter strips, Piva North & Piva South (they also had formal names, Piva Yoke & I forget the other one). Torokina was another runway, right off the beach.

Revell used to make both a 1/32 and 1/72 scale model of Ike Kepford's #29. I don't think there was a kid that I knew that didn't build that model...at least until "Baa Baa Black Sheep" came on the air and the decals were changed to match Boyington's Corsair.
