Warbird Information Exchange

Here's a preview of a photo essay I'm working on for publication.

This was the view out my window at the Trenton Ontario Holiday Inn--one of my favorite hotel room views from all my travels.

One of 17 flyable two-seat CF-5s going to the US for reassembly by Northrop-Grumman. Orenda is checking out all the J-85 CAN engines. Two of these aircraft will remain in the US as private warbirds for sure--not certain about the other 15 but they may be resold or leased out for military contract work.

Not a great pic but glimpse inside one of the old hangars at Mountainview. It was a visual overload with all the aircraft, parts, engines, and equipment crammed in the hangar. The remaining T-33 parts at Mountainview are being moved to CFB Trenton--looked like they'd already moved all the Rolls Royce Nene 10 engines there as we saw them on the ramp by the ATESS maintenance hangar.

I approached Tim Savage at Warbird Digest and he expressed interest so I'm going to submit the article and accompanying pics to him first and see if they can use it. We still have one more T-33 to extract from CFB Trenton and hope to fly it to the USA this week or next week. That'll be the final chapter of the story.

Nice pics, thanks for posting. Have you heard anything about one of the CT-133's heading west to BC? Rumour has it a local warbird owner bought one out of Mountainview and is to be delivered to VAM work.

BLR- The rumor is true. One of our good friends Tom Rogers who has been active in warbirds for a long time has purchased one of the airplanes and is in the process of getting it flyable to come out to BC. It will either be based at Boundary Bay (CZBB) or at Vancouver (CYVR). That has yet to be decided.

I had seen them sitting on the 890 ramp at BTV, whats the scoop???? think there was 3 sitting there, but i went back home last weekend and they were gone. Never did get over there for a look see. I miss seeing T-33's at BTV, the VTANG had them until the early 80's.

Were those 3 T-33s pictured the ones that were at the Pease air show?It was sure great to see them!

Yes, Tom Rogers owns one of the M'view T-33s going to the Vancouver area. In fact he contacted me to do some flying and came down to Milwaukee and we did just that so he could get familiar with the airplane again. He flew them in the RCAF as a student. In fact he flew the very airplane he bought when he was a student in RCAF flight school--cool! The three T-33s I flew to Burlington VT have since been moved to Portsmouth NH and yes N133MQ is a play on owner Dan McCue's name. One of those airplanes is coming to Rockford IL for a condition inspection and licensing (not sure about the other two) as will 133599 which is still at Trenton waiting on us to fly it back this week or next.

Thats good news for us here on the west coast. Which CT-133 did Tom get? Was it 599?

BTW, I hope to see an article on this in Warbird Digest. It's a good mag but needs some jet warbird content.

467 was last at Comox so it should feel right at home on the west coast. Any updates on Tom's or any other CT-133's is always appreciated.

On Wednesday Sept 12th, I ferried former RCAF/CF T-33 133599 from CFB Trenton to Rockford Illinois where it will be dismantled for a thorough condition inspection. It flew great and we had no squawks or problems. It will be based out of Waukesha WI (KUES) and flown regularly. The owner plans to keep the original grey paint scheme and reapply original Canadian Forces markings.
