The Mississippi Locator is now on-line. It can be found at…
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=MS

Unfortunately there are number of questions for which I am looking for answers. If you are from the area, or have passed through and might be able to help, I would appreciate it if you could take a look at the list and let me know if you can fill in any of the gaps.

BTW… Alabama is next

Regards,

Mike

EDIT: The revised "Need Help" list has been moved to my most recent post.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

There have been no posts here, but a number of you have used the submission form and sent emails. The need help list has been knocked down quite a bit. Thanks.

Regards,

Mike

This is the “Need Help” list…
Note: This list doesn’t exactly match the Locator contents. After tonight’s upload they should be in sync.

#1: The Sea, Air & Space Museum is in Biloxi. Did it survive Hurricane Katrina? If so where is it? Does it currently have any aircraft?
#3: Is there a T-28 and/or F-100 displayed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi?
#4: There is a T-37 displayed at Columbus AFB. Is there another T-37 displayed in the city of Columbus?
#5: Where exactly is the T-33 displayed at Greenville AFB?
#7: Is there a F-86 in Gulfport?
#13: There may be a F-84 and a F-101 displayed at the Jackson-Evers International Airport in addition to the A-26. Can you confirm? If so where are they?
#14: There may be a UH-1 at a VFW in Magee? Where exactly?

The only static airplane at KJAN is the A-26 outside of the C-17 hangar.

There are two Cessna O-2A's and an AT-6 at KMBO (Madison, MS) Coordinates 32d26'24.66"N, 90d06'18.62"W, in the gray metal hangar with the north facing doors.

There are two static display North American T-2B's in Meridian, MS.

First on is at 32░23'15.69"N, 88░41'03.68"W, on the east side of the highway, near an automobile dealership.

Second one is just inside the main gate at NAS Meridian, on the northeast corner of the cross street, 32░32"46.45"N, 88░36"20.74"W.

Thanks!

It looks like the new one is outside the base, so I created a new entry of that one.

These will be in tonight's upload.

#14 - The VFW website does not list a post in Magee.

#4 - The "Preserved Military Aircraft" site lists only the T-37 at Columbus AFB.

#3 - There is a T-28, see my detailed response of a few days ago.

There is no F-100 at Keesler.

Until now that PMA list was THE reference, but it is also full of errors and quite dated, so I don't assume it has the final word. I'll leave the T-37 in Columbus open for now. Just may get lucky and a local will be able to confirm or deny it's existance.

I had a few different conflicting contributions for Keesler, hence I left the reference to the T-28 and F-100 in question. Sites B and C are also still some what in question. Could you take another look at them?...

Mike,

My response of last week concerning the aircraft at Keesler AFB contained information directly from the Public Affairs Office at Keesler. I have no reason to doubt their accuracy.

Mike, I was at the Air national Guard Base at Jackson Evers Airport in Jackson, MS yesterday, and there is now a Bell UH-1 on a pedestal outside of the main gate to the base.

It is not on Google Earth, and the coordinates are:

32°19'44.87"
90°04'59.08"

Dave

The T-37 at Columbus AFB is located at:
33.37.22.83N 88.26.11.26W

Across the road (appropriately East Gate Road) is what appears to be a T-38 on GE, located at:
33.37.21.89N 88.26.14.42W

For years there was an old DC3 parked at the Laurel Airport. I' sure it's gone now, but you never know :)

Thanks Gents! I have added the appropriate notes into the database. I'll try to remember to do an upload tonight.

I will return to researching sites for the database in the fall. I have been working on some new features for the Locator. For example I included an aircraft type cagtegory in the search engine...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php ... ,Region=MS

...more features to come.

I have also added a new login page...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/UserLogin.php

...which allows you to enter your email address and a password, then takes you to a page where you can put yourself on the email distribution for the Locator.

Mike

Mike,
Here's my take on your Mississippi queries:

#1: The Sea, Air & Space Museum is in Biloxi. Did it survive Hurricane Katrina? If so where is it? Does it currently have any aircraft?
>> No knowledge of this museum.

#3: Is there a T-28 and/or F-100 displayed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi?
>> The T-28A is 51-3734, falsely marked as "13747". YF-100A 52-5755 which used to be at the Seafront Gate (f/n Dec74) was taken down and hangared on 11Aug01 as it was becoming dangerous due to corrosion. I do not know its fate.

#4: There is a T-37 displayed at Columbus AFB. Is there another T-37 displayed in the city of Columbus?
>> Yes, 59-0274 is preserved on the northern side of the junction of Hwy 45 with Hwy 82.
In addition, pole-mounted at the junction of Rte 45 and the road to the gate is 58-1914.

#5: Where exactly is the T-33 displayed at Greenville AFB?
>> Location is Greenville/Mid-Delta Airport (KGLH).

#7: Is there a F-86 in Gulfport?
>> Not to my knowledge.

#13: There may be a F-84 and a F-101 displayed at the Jackson-Evers International Airport in addition to the A-26. Can you confirm? If so where are they?
>> No, just the A-26 and the UH-1.

#14: There may be a UH-1 displayed in Magee. Where exactly?
>> It is 67-17219, displayed outside VFW 9122 on the north side of town on Hwy 49 close to the exit for Simpson Legion Lake.

All this, and more, can be found in the 4th (2007) Edition of my "USA Military Out of Service", available through Aviation Retail Direct.

Regards,
Andy Marden

Mike, a Canadian, looking for US military aircraft displays in Mississippi, USA, being informed as to many of their locations by Andy, in the UK..

Gotta love it..... Couldn't help but chuckle....

(And I'll be looking forward to getting a copy of your book, Andy!)
