Here is an interview with Robin Olds that I just finished editing for EAA's Timeless Voices of Aviation oral history program. General Olds was one of the first people interviewed when the program was started back in 2002. I believe EAA Warbirds of America member Sam Bass was the interviewer, but I am not entirely sure.

The editing was kept to a minimum, basically taking out the interviewer's questions and comments so that the story is uninterrupted. In hindsight, I wish they would have covered some other details, but I'm glad that they recorded anything at all. It just goes to show that you have to preserve history NOW, because you never know when the opportunity will be lost.

I did not know the general well, but had met him on a couple of occasions. After watching the video, I am sure you'll agree that you cannot help but like the guy. He'll be missed...

Zack

Thanks Zack - great to hear the words from a true American Hero. God bless him and meet him at the gates...

Enjoy the Day! Mark

There is a memorial service at the AF Academy tomorrow at around 11 AM. Possibly his internment, I do not have all details.

I don't usually make it to the end of taped interviews, for any number of reasons. I dislike the overworked concept of 'hero', but this is one man I sincerely wish I had had the opportunity to meet.

I get really agitated on the subject of desk jockeys and politicians running a frontline military operation. Thank God there are men like Robin Olds who can maintain a level of humility, audacity, bravery, intelligence, common sense and responsibility to his nation and his crews, in spite of the ridiculous pressures of working for the social climbers back home.

General, I salute you.

Doug

keep an eye on Fence Check in the coming couple of weeks.

We are currently putting together an article on Robin Olds and had photographers at both the AFA and on the ramp at KCOS to cover the F-4's

It will be a subscriber free piece so you will all be able to see it.

and here is the Robin Olds tribute

all the F-4 and T-33 photos were taken at Peterson AFB/Colorado Springs MAP (our photographers didn't come through at the AFA due to various issues)
