Aircraft Scrapyard in Montgomery, Alabama?

Tue Oct 05, 2004 1:05 pm

Does anyone know information about an aircraft scrapyard that is located in Montgomery, Alabama? It is about 1 or 2 miles west of Dannely Field, and I flew over it today while on ILS final.

Because I was flying the ILS, I didn't get a very good look at it, but I could see a field, about half the size of a soccer field, with a couple dozen fuselages and wings stored out in the open. I didn't see anything specifically military out there, but it was tough to make out anything given that it was right below my nose and I was a little busy at 170 knots!

Can you fly over again, and take some pictures?

Thanks,

Chris

Single seat jet + 160 knots on final + 1 mile off approach end of runway = probably not gonna be able to take any pictures

I would if I could, though. It's about a 6 hour drive from where I live, so I'm probably not going to do that, either. I was hoping that there was someone who lived in that Alabama area who might know or be able to go there and take a look. Again, I didn't get the impression that there was much military hardware in there but it did look interesting.

It is located west of the airport in a field that sits north of the east/west road that goes by the airport (HWY 80?). There is a building or warehouse of some sort right by the street, then about 50 yards behind building are the airplane hulks.

In this photo, the place would be out the bottom of the photo, under where the photo was being taken. That road on the left side of the photo curves around such that on final the road is actually slightly off to your right side.
