Florida Locator

Tue Dec 05, 2006 4:37 pm

I just finished taking the Florida section of the locator as far as I can on my own. You check check it out at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_FL

If you have anything you can add, correct, or improve I would like to hear from you. A reply here is great. PMs work as well. I have also created a new form for submissions to the locator which may be found at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocatorForm.html

I have a number of questions which I will list below.

I look forward to any comments you may have. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Florida is a big state, and I have many questions...

#1: The Florida Military Aviation Museum in Clear Water may be closing. Is there anything left there?

#2: Is there a miniature golf course in Daytonna Beach with a Beech 18 displayed?

#3: Is there an A-6 at DeLand NAS?

#4: Are any HU-16s operated from the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport? Any simply stored or displayed there?

#5: Is there a P-39 at the Fort Myers Historical Museum?

#6: Are any of the following displayed at Hurlburt AFB? - A-37, B-25, C-46, UH-1, O-1, O-2, OV-10, T-28 or U-10

#7: Any HU-16s at Opa Locka Airport?

#8: I found a F-18 at Cecil Field NAS. There may be as many as 8 others displayed around the base. Where?

#9: Any F-4s at Herlong Airport?

#10: Is there an A-7 at Jacksonville NROTC?

#11: Are any airframes displayed at New River MCAS?

#12: In Kissimmee, what are the coordinates of the hangers for...
Stallion 51?
Warbird Aventures?
White 1 Foundation?

#13: Is there a F-106 and a T-33 displayed at Homestead AFB?

#14: Is there a SNJ, a N2S and/or a HU-57 displayed at Whiting NAS?

#15: Is there a museum at Tyndall AFB? If so, it may have the following in the collection: B-57, F-86, F-89, F-100, F-104, T-33

#16: Is there a F-15 displayed in Panama City or Callaway?

#17: Is there an F-102 and/or a F-105 displayed around the Saint Petersburg airport?

#18: Is there a F-4 at the Central Florida Regional Airport in Sanford?

#19: Is there a F-15 displayed at Mac Dill AFB in Tampa?

#20: Where exactly is the Air America Foundation located in Tittusville?

Tue Dec 05, 2006 6:19 pm

Mike, I have sent various emails over the last week concerning FL and TX, have you been getting these. They will answer some of your questions.

For example #18, it appears to be a A5 not an F4 at Sanford. Fits since these flew out of there.

Bill.

Tue Dec 05, 2006 7:14 pm

Answers to some of your questions-

#2 There is a Beech 18 at a South Daytona mini golf course.

#3 There is an F-14 across the street from the Deland NAS museum and a TBM in the backyard

#18 There is an A5(?) Vigilante outside of Sanford

#20 The C-123 is now located at the VAC in Titusville

Jay Wisler can probably answer the rest of your questions.

#15: Is there a museum at Tyndall AFB? If so, it may have the following in the collection: B-57, F-86, F-89, F-100, F-104, T-33! No there is not a museum at Tyndall AFB, there is the Air Armament Museum at Eglin AFB though. They have a P-51, P-47, F-80, and F-105 displayed inside. They have a SR-71, A-10, C-47, B-25, T-33, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-84, F-86, F-89, F-100, F-101, F-104, F-111, RB-47, RF-4, O-2, C-131, B-52, B-57, AC-130A, B-17, UH-1 and MIG-21 displayed outside.

At Tyndall AFB there is a Flag Park with the Ghost Squadron where there is an F-4C, F-15A, F-106A, F-86D. Also at Tyndall there is what if IRC a MIG-23 parked in front of the WEG (Weapons Evaluation Group) building.

There at 3 F-101's on display in Panama City, one in fornt of the Community College, One in front of or near the Civic Center, and the last one at the Ball Fields off of HWY 22 (this one was next to Food World at one time).

#16: Is there a F-15 displayed in Panama City or Callaway? Yes it is at the Veterans Park in Callaway I can get the Number for it tomorrow, if you like.

Veterans Park is right off of Tyndall Parkway ( aka 15th street or HWY 98 ). If going west on the road take a right on to Veterans Street aka Cherry Street, the park is just down the road on the right side. IIRC it's a F-15A.

Guess I sould have looked at the web-site before I made my last post. You already had the F-101's listed, Eglin Armament Center listed, and the Ghost Squadron at Tyndall AFB, Flag Park Listed. Should have looked before I spoke/wrote.

In the Eglin AFB area there a quite a few Aux Fields with derelict AC on them. Here's the web site with old and recent shots of the Fields, showing the AC.

http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Air ... _Eglin.htm

As for a museum at Tyndall, I've never heard of one, and neither has my dad, we both live here, he's retired AF, and I'm still in the AF.

I have received some input for the Florida Locator via email. They have been added. As well I have sorted through the huge number of replies here (not that I am complaining). Here is are my responses…

Bill Kistler wrote:Mike, I have sent various emails over the last week concerning FL and TX, have you been getting these. They will answer some of your questions.

I hate to say it Bill, but I may not have. I did get one from you earlier this week. I reply to all that I receive, so if you didn’t get a reply… shoot. Do you keep copies of emails you sent? Try sending directly to, mrhenniger@hotmail.com, or use the Locator submission form given above.

I have been having trouble with my email forwarding via mrhenniger@AerialVisuals.ca. I am in the process of removing it from my electronic signatures (I forgot about those). That might explain the email trouble?

Bill Kistler wrote:For example #18, it appears to be a A5 not an F4 at Sanford. Fits since these flew out of there.

Matt Sharkey wrote:#18: Is there a F-4 at the Central Florida Regional Airport in Sanford? MRS: No, the is a A-5 located near the main terminal. MRS: N 28° 45.890 W 081° 14.249

Got it!

Gary Norville wrote:#18 There is an A5(?) Vigilante outside of Sanford

Aaaahhh… So if I am interpreting this correctly, there is an A-5, but it is not “in town”.

Gary Norville wrote:#2 There is a Beech 18 at a South Daytona mini golf course.

Got it, but it is closer to Daytona, off route 1A.

Gary Norville wrote:#3 There is an F-14 across the street from the Deland NAS museum and a TBM in the backyard.

Added.

I think I have this flag park at…

If I understand you correctly, there is no museum building at this location.

ffuries wrote:Also at Tyndall there is what if IRC a MIG-23 parked in front of the WEG (Weapons Evaluation Group) building.

Thanks for that tip. However… I have no idea where the WEB building is. I gave the area a good look, but with my luck it is painted in camo. Can you give me a clue as to the location?

That one must be this one then. I wondered that that star shaped thing was.

Wow, everyone responded qucikly. If I can be help, please let me know.
I'm up at Sanford (SFB) every weekend for flight lessons. If you want a pictures of #18, I'll get some for you.

#3. If we fly again, we could hop over to Deland and snap some too.

Thanks for the offer, it is appreciated, however I am not taking pictures for the locator at this time. It is still in it's infancy, and there is MUCH work to be done on the listings. If you can help to improve the locations with better coordinates, street addresses, etc. I would very much like to hear from you.

However... Scott would probably appreciate receiving photos of the planes for the Warbirds Registry (see link at the top of the page). You can email submissions to him at... submit@REMOVETHISwarbirdregistry.org

Yes those are the locations for the 3 F-101's (Marina Civic Center, Callaway Ball Park, and Gulf Coast Community College.

Just did a Google Map search it appears the MIG has been moved, I'll do some asking at the base to find out what happened to her.

Correct there is no museum at Tyndall AFB.

I live in Callaway (right outside Tyndall AFB), I'm stationed at Eglin AFB Aux Fld 3, which is down the road from main-base Eglin, and also just down from Hurlburt Fld. So needless to say I have access to all three bases on a daily basis. So if you need Reg/Tail numbers for any of those AC just drop me a line.
