T-6 parts sill needed

Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:46 am

I received an email from Fritz –

He is still in need of the following parts for his T-6 project:

PN 66-31080-2
Bulkhead at firewall, (need two, LH) Photo attached. MayWest dzus fastens to this sheet metal part and it sits on top of center-section spar, and bolts to “up-lock” casting at firewall.

Any leads?

Sounds like someone needs to cough up a part we can use
as a pattern so we can make some more.

I have a pair that are for my Harvard 4. What do you have in mind?

When Fritz was originally looking for this part, I e-mailed
him a scan of the North American drawing for it. If these parts
truly aren't available from any source, I wouldn't mind making
up several ship-sets utilizing original parts as patterns (along
with the NAA drawing(s)).

Been down this path before with my project (no parts were
available, so I had to make my own out of 2024-O and
had them heat-treated by a local heat-treat facility).
I use the same local heat-treat place our shop uses (I work
for a major aerospace corporation building heavy/large
transport category aircraft).

Anyway, if there is demand for these parts (LH & RH) for the
T-6 project-base out there, the thought is to fabricate a form,
hammer up some parts out of annealed aluminum sheet & have
them profesionnally heat-treated to specification (I need
a pair for my project anyway).

Postcript: Forgot to add that making new parts from drawings
is one thing, but making new parts from good/straight patterns
in addition to the drawings is as easy as taking candy from
a baby... :D

Looks like Fritz and I are the only ones who need these parts!

Well, I've still got good straight patterns. I'll just need them back in a reasonable timeframe.

How about I get them back to you within a month or two? That should
give me sufficient time to fabricate the forms, test fit same using the
original parts and perhaps fab a few trial pieces with 2024-O to check
form/fit/function.

For what it's worth, it would appear that RH side parts are available
NOS, but LH side parts are not.

I'm in the middle of an annual (and re-paint) on my C-180, but as
soon as that's done, I can allocate all of my spare time & efforts to
these parts. If you're game, I'll letcha know when I'm ready (it'll
likely be after the New Year).

Thanks bdk,

Bela P. Havasreti

PS: If anyone else out there wants/needs these, pipe up now (need
to plan for a sufficient quantity to be fabricated).

Nice crickets Bela,

I just found the post. I could use two pairs. What do you figure it will cost?

Too early to tell....

FWIW, I don't think they will be particularly difficult to fabricate.
