I am curious when you say it was an ex-windmachine. I have heard of the SBD/A-24 windmachines, but never a corsair. Do you know anything about this part of its existence, or have any photos from this time or recently that you could post. I would love to know more.

Thanks Scott... should have thought to check the directory here too! For some reason I had it in my brain that it was a wind-machine for use in film making, but I imagine it was more for testing of structures under hurricanes and other high winds. I seem to remember that there was a Sea Fury used for this purpose in Australia. I remember a photo of it with its tail jacked up, and the outer wings removed. I am keen to hear about the Bearcat you mentioned as well.

Dave Tallichet bought some SBD's that were used as fruit orchard wind machines (sans outer wing panels). I think that Yanks now has one of them, not sure where the others are.

The Corsair was used (sans tailcone and outer wing panels) for testing materials (probably windows and curtainwall for tall buildings). I remember seeing a picture of the Corsair in Air Classics in the 1970's.

This one reportedly was used as a wind machine by Kaman Corp, probably for a wind tunnel.

Two of the wind machine SBDs (actually A-24s) are here in Akron at the MAPS Air Museum on loan from Tallichet. I think Kevin Smith and Kermit Weeks also have a ex wind machine SBD each.

Isn't the POF SBD an ex MGM wind machine too?

You can add this photo to the gallery if you like. It's not the best photo in the world, but it's one that actually shows the "wind machine" in action. Cupples Products manufactures glass walls for high-rise buildings. The Corsair was used to test these, and more often than not, for demonstation purposes for prospective clients.
