Hello again to all,
I was wondering what was,is,or will be the final outcome for the incinerated remains of "Kee Bird".I have read various proposals but have heard nothing definite.anyone know any scuttlebutt?..........................

Hi all,
The last definite information I heard was that the salvage rights had been granted to someone in the US after the unfortunate Darryl Greenameyer attempt. I don't know the name of the person in question, or whether he has anything to do with the museum in the US that is trying to raise money for recovery of the remains.

I heard that a group out of Fresno CA was going to recover the parts. I guess the wings and tail are fine. Just the front and rear cabin sections were destroyed (just may not be the right way to say that 
)
I remember to this day when I found out that a/c burned up. I was on watch at my squadron’s hanger ready an Flying magazine and they has a small article with a picture of her on fire. I wanted to cry.

The story I got was that Gary Larkins filed the permits for the recovery and that he was on the hook for the clean up of the site! But havnt heared anything more on this issue!thanks Mike

Like you,I too remember where I was when Kee Bird went up in flames.I was working at the port of Los Angeles and after work I would visit a great little aviation bookshop in nearby Hawthorne.The owner knew my interest in the recovery and he told me the bad news as I walked through the door.Like you,I too wanted to cry,But big boys dont cry,do they?I followed Kee Bird story ever since I first saw a picture in Air Classics in the late 70's or early 80's.Mr.Greenameyer gave it his best shot and I dont hold it against him for what happened(sh-t happens!)The recovery attempt is covered in great detail in the book"Hunting Warbirds" by
Carl Hoffman.It was one hell of an adventure and they came so close to success.Its a great book and I highly recommend it to all warbird freaks like myself out there.thanks, Tim................................

I have not seen the video documentry in years but I remember it was very sad to watch. What and exciting adventure with a tragic end.
